  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This was an idea I've had for a while, and I am wondering who would be interested in it.

Almost everyone has heard the legendary tale of the Lord of the Rings, written by J.R.R. Tolkien, which now has become an epic motion picture trilogy. The grand tale of the Hobbit that obtained the One Ring from his uncle Bilbo and now must cross the land called Middle-Earth to dispose of it within Mount Doom.

But now the legendary question is applied. What if? It can go in many places: what if Isildur destroyed the Ring when the time presented it? what if Bilbo killed Gollum? what if the hobbits went through Bree and never met Aragorn? what if Aragorn was not able to scare off the Ringwraiths and in turn save Frodo?

Many questions. But another couple come to mind.

What if the Fellowship fell in Moria? What if the party ignored Gandalf's warning and decided to aid him in the battle of the Balrog? What if some of them fell with him?

As this rpg opens, Frodo will have fallen the massive distance from the Bridge of Khazad-Dûm. Gandalf breaks the bridge and casts the Balrog down into the depths of Moria, and falls himself. The Ringbearer, and with him the One Ring, the entire object of the quest, is gone.

The players will take the roles of the remaining fellowship and embark on newfound quest to recover the One Ring. Are you willing to take the roles of heroes and make your mark in Middle-Earth?

--rolemaster :)

The playable character are those that are remaining in the fellowship:

Aragorn (rolemaster)
Legolas (Sayci)
Pippin (Donkey_Kong_JR)
Merry (rolemaster)
Sam (Sayci)
Boromir (Hastur)
Gimli (Donkey_Kong_JR)

At the moment, all of the character slots are filled, but if more players wish to join, they may take Aragorn and/or Merry. Furthermore, as the characters meet new characters, new slots may be avalible.

During the battle, Gandalf broke the bridge and cast down the Balrog, but in it's last attempt with the whip caught the Wizard's leg. In stumbling, Gandalf accidentally brought the Ringbearer with him.

Hastur said:
Dibs on Boromir! we should fill up the fellowship though , although i donno who would wanna play a hobbit. at least the non-hobbits
are we playing gurps?

Alright! Boromir is reserved for ye.
Yes, I would like to fill up the fellowship. That would be amazing. Since Frodo fell, the ring would need to be recovered in some way obviously. Gandalf said in the first book that the Ring does not immediatly affect the simple minded (the hobbits) and the very wise (gandalf, elrond). Thus, the burden falls to the hobbits, who were the original ringbearers in the first place. So actually, the hobbits may prove to be one of the biggest parts of the rpg ;)
And no, I'm sorry this is not going to be GURPS. It is freestyle. I tried running some GURPS a while back, not counting eye of the beholder, and no one seems interested, So this is freestyle.

Well, actually, I would like to limit this rpg to 4 or 5 people. Play by post rpgs tend to lose their energy the more players you pack into it, even though there are 7 characters up for grabs. Still, if we do not get more interest we can start with two people. What do you guys think?

Without rules, or actually, using freeform, is like writing a story. The players would each write the parts of their story, and the Gm would be there to move the rest. Hes like the author, with all of the players being the main characters. So, instead of dice, the gm just judges the situation against reality to figure the outcome, just like an author of a book does.

Alright, I shall see to the first post, and you go get your friends :D

Hey guys, the opening post is up. I apoligize for the length. You can actually just skim through it because it is very similar to the movie and the books. I took a lot of the text from the actual book, so it may be ever so slightly different from the movie, but otherwise is the same concept where it matters...except where Frodo is concerned. :D

Hmm. I'm not sure. I guess we really aren't waiting for anybody else, and since there are only two players I'll say okay. Hastur? Do you want a second character?

I'll change the list on the first page when you tell me which one you want.
