Hi, I'm 12 years old. My family hasn't been very religious except on my dad's side. I'm looking to start becoming more religious. I have been praying to God since I was 10 and knowing God was real for my whole life. My mom recently passed away a few months ago so I'm also trying to get help from God. I also want to know what should I change about me. I listen to 2pac and bone thugs and hip hop I was wondering what artists should I not listen to? I hear Bone thugs worship the devil or something? If so I will stop listening to them but please reply and ask of things that I should not be doing. Thanks.

Let me give you this from the bible, what I call the "The Philippian Prescription:"

Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable—if there is any moral excellence and if there is any praise—dwell on these things. -- Philippians 4:8

The "whatever" extends the context beyond scripture itself, and then the verse gives us the criteria of what we should dwell on, what we should study and permit into our minds and spirits.

Think of your spiritual body like your physical body. If you want to be strong and healthy physically, you know you must eat the right foods and get exercise. If you feed your body junk food, you're going to get fat and unhealthy. And if you want to be an elite athlete, you have to feed your body only the best foods, and leave the junk alone.

It's the same way with your spiritual body. If you want your spirit to be strong and healthy, you've got to feed it the right spiritual food. You have to keep out the junk and feed it good food, which is what the Philippian Prescription prescribes for you.

Find music that tells of what is honorable, what is good, what is just, what is right.

Hi, I am really sorry about your mum; that must be difficult for you to cope with. I hope you find the strength and comfort you need from God, and from your friends.

Meanwhile, listen to whatever music your mum used to let you listen to, and whatever your dad lets you listen to now. Don't worry about suggestions of devil worship in music; those kind of comments are not sensible. Be who you are, and listen to what you like, and if you think it might help then perhaps start to read the Bible. A good place to start is the Psalms, which are supposed to have been written by King David. He knew about grief and despair, and it helps sometimes to see that he can put our own feelings into words. After that perhaps the Gospel of Mark; that is a nice short book and it really moves along, like watching an action film. : )

Take care, and God be with you.

Little brother, the Holy Spirit brought you here and He is now taking care of you and your beloved mummy. Always pray to Him and He will help you to lead a lifestyle that is good for you, a lifestyle that your mummy would like you to have. I'm proud of you little brother, be proud of yourself always. Ignorant people might ridicule you for having religious beliefs, but pay no heed to them as they are jealous and would love to have the guts to say what you have said. Continue along this path and you will grow to be a wonderful young man whose company people will seek out

You are on the right track! Just keep praying and seeking God. Here are the ways that I seek God:

I read the Bible almost every day. When you read the Bible, you give God a chance to tell you what He wants you to do or remember that day. If you don't have a Bible, let me know, and I will find a way to get you one that you can understand.

Remember: God is always with you. God is not just in Heaven, though that is where His full glory is. God is with you and me right now, right where we are. Always. When you go to sleep, God's angels are there protecting you. When you wake up, God is waiting and really excited about talking to you. So, talk to the Lord and think about God a lot. Ask Him what you should do throughout the day. Talk to God about problems you have or questions you can't find the answers to. Then, wait and expect God to answer in some very beautiful, quiet, meaningful way.

Dedicate something to God. You could start with something small. You mentioned music. Start looking on the internet for Christian music you like. I don't know the new Christian groups. I mainly listen to hymns, but there are so many ways to worship and honor God. Some worship music is just instrumental. It's not all choir music, I promise. TobyMac is a popuar Christian artist. Pray that God will lead you to music that glorifies Him. :)

Every day, try to let God be in charge of your life more and more. Every day, think less and less of what you want to do, and more and more of what God wants you to do. God isn't interested in giving us a long list of "don'ts." There are many more "do's" we need to pay attention to. For example: do make everyone you know feel that you love them more than you love yourself. Make sacrifices to help other people. Never say bad things about people, but pray for people who hurt you, because if you don't, God might punish them. Make good use of your time. Make every minute count. Do as many good things as you can. Keep your eyes and ears open and ask God to show you someone you can help. It may be someone who needs a friend. Someone may be getting attacked by others and need defending. Someone may be confused and sad and need encouragement. These are all things you can do more and more of.

At some point, if you decide you enjoy serving God, you may decide to dedicate your entire life to God. This is a big decision, but all of us Christians have made it. We can tell you it's the right decision, because human beings are weak: when we do things our own way, we always mess up our lives and hurt others unintentionally. I encourage you to tell God, "Lord, I trust you with my entire future. Do whatever you need to do to me to change me into the person you want me to be, and thank you in advance for having mercy on me." Believe that Jesus can do this for you, because he already lived the perfect life for you, and you can borrow his goodness and his power of life because he came back from the dead. That power of life is in you, if you believe that Jesus came from God to save us. :)

God bless you, and I pray you'll stay on the road of life with Jesus at your side.

Pardon me, but being a Christian isn't being religous. It's quite the opposite really. It is a relationship with the One who gave Himself for us. Have you ever heard the gospel? I'm sure you are familiar with Adam and Eve. Correct? Well God gave Adam and Eve one law. Do not eat from the Tree of knowledge of good and evil. Adam and Eve broke God's law and right then and there sin entered the world, ruining God's perfect creation. Everyone who has set foot on earth has committed sin and is guilty of breaking God's law (Romans 3:23- for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God). We all deserve the punishment of eternity in hell. That includes you, me, and everybody else who has taken a breath, except for One. That One is Jesus Christ. God sent His Son, Jesus, to die for you, and everyone else. Jesus came into this world being born of a virgin. He lived a perfect, sinless life for 33 years performing miracles and ministering. He was mocked, spat upon, beaten, was crucified, and rose from the dead 3 days later. God went through all of this so that we would have the opportunity to spend eternity with Him. He loves us that much! Isn't that amazing? God offers the gift of salvation through faith in His Son, Jesus. To accept this Gift you need to believe that Jesus was born of a virgin, died on the cross, and rose from the dead 3 days later, ascended into heaven and is sitting at the right hand of the Father and one day He is going to return for His followers. Repent and turn away from yourself and place your faith in Jesus Christ and trust in Him to save you. Pray and confess your sin before Him and ask Him to forgive you. Ask Him to save You and place your faith in Jesus. Your prayer may go a little something like this:

"God, I know I have sinned against You. I confess all my sin before You. Forgive me. Jesus I believe that You are the Way, the Truth, and the Life and that no on comes to the Father except through You. I repent of my sin and I place my faith and trust in You. Save me Lord. Use me for Your glory. In Your name, Amen."

Romans 10:9- that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Do this and you will receive the gift of eternal life. God loves you and He wants you to come and follow Him. I look forward to hearing a reply from you. I will keep you in prayer. God bless!
