  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey everyone! About six years ago, one of my friends grandmother's played this Christian Country song to me because she loved it so much. I liked it and they made a tape for me. I've since lost the tape and unfortunately I don't talk to that friend anymore. :( That song has always stuck with me, even though I have never been a fan of either types of music. I have no way of finding who sang the song or what it's called. I tried searching on google and alta vista for it and had no luck. So I was hoping you guys would be able to help me out.

The song was about a boy who loved going to church, but his father never went with him. Every Sunday he would ask his dad if he would go to church with him and the father always said no (that was the chorus). One day the mother and son were driving and they got into a car accident and got killed. The father was devastated and wished that he could hear his son ask him to go to church again. Then you hear a little boy's voice talking telling him to wake up and it's Sunday morning and he wants to know if the dad will go to church with him. The car accident was a dream.

Here's the little bits of lyrics I remember:

Chorus:

I promise I'll be good
And do everything you say
So Daddy won't you please come to church with me today

About the Car Accident:

The sun was shining bright
she didn't see the car that swerved into her lane

When the boy wakes his Dad up:

Daddy, Daddy, Wake up Daddy
It's Sunday Morning
Won't you come to church with me today
I promise I'll be good and do everything you say
So Daddy won't you please come to church with me today

I also remember one part where there was talk about Jesus, but I can't remember the exact words.

Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it.

Thanks for your help esther18, but the song was sung by a man, so I don't think it's that song.

Heh, sorry to make you curious, dmiller. It's been in the back of my head ever since then and I'm hoping it wasn't something local or anything. I really loved that song. I wish I could find the tape.

As for talking to the friend, I'm afraid it's not possible. She went to a different school district and her number is unlisted. I'm kind of wary about trying to find a way to contact her because she seemed to be doing some things that I didn't agree with. I didn't want to do the same, so I distance myself from her. Sorry if I'm blabbing. :)

Crisium -- I emailed a dj from a big southern Gospel station (I think it is located in Nashville, Tennessee), and he did not know either. :(

His name is Les Butler, and he runs a bluegrass show on the weekends, and is a mandolin picker himself, so he is a picker as well as a dj, and he knows his stuff when it comes to tunes.

His email is les@solidgospel should you have any future questions about authorship about a song.

Good luck. :)

Wow, thank you guys so much for your help. I'm glad I'm getting responses :)

dmiller, Thank you for emailing Les Butler. It's unfortunate he hasn't heard of it. I'm starting to think I imagined it, heh.

It's frustrating because I usually just type the lyrics in google and it comes up with hundreds of sites with the lyrics, but I got nothing with this one.

Once again, I really appreciate your help. I can't reiterate it enough. :) And, sorry if I got your hopes up too tndrwarrior with this post. :)
