  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hey guys,

I pretty much joined to fellowship and talk with some people. At the moment, I am in a dark and solitary period in my life, and desire to talk to some strong believers who truly know the Lord. I am from the United States, 23 years old, and identify with the historic Reformed Baptist faith, as comprehended in the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith. Many of my favorite works are from the Puritans. I really enjoy reading books like the Discourse of the Covenants by Nehemiah Coxe and the Heart of Christ by Thomas Goodwin. I worked for a while doing construction framing, but now I am unemployed (living with my parents still). I am just in need of encouragement and to build some friendships.

That's chill, what kind of prophecy sermons do you listen to? Or, what is a prophecy sermon? I am looking forward to church too! Our church body is a plant since 2005, and we just begun our first Sunday School/Bible study a month ago, so this heightens the excitement to a new level :D One of our elders has decided to begin our first study these last several weeks on witnessing, like what sort of questions people may throw at us in this day and age, and how we should be prepared to give an answer that will lead them into a saving knowledge of and faith in Christ.

Our church does expositional preaching, which is pretty much explaining verse by verse, chapter by chapter, book by book, and applying the text to our walk with Christ. We finished the second letter to Timothy, and we are going to begin in the book of Acts pretty soon. But between this time, he preached on the first couple chapters of Luke during the Christmas season. What kind of sermons does your church preach, or what was the last sermon about and what did you take from it?

G.K. Beale has some great stuff on Revelation (books, sermons, etc), if you're interested in it.

"As for witnessing, you definitely outperform me on that as I have no confidence in going out in public and preaching the gospel. I'm a kind of guy who would rather stay inconspicuous until the Lord returns."

Well, our study is more focused on personal witnessing (like friends, family, co-workers, etc). Our elder wants to equip us with the right tools to effectually reach them with the gospel. Here is a question we talked about a couple Sundays ago: what if you had a family member or friend who was in a homosexual relationship and they invited you to their "wedding," how would you respond? The last one we did was on the question for the validity of the text of Scripture: there are literally thousands of manuscripts of the New Testament, how do we know if we have the right text? This one was one of my favorites. Or, someone may ask, prove that Jesus declared himself God. I believe it is the duty of every believer to reach the lost with the gospel, that is our commission, and that we should all be missionaries in this life to all the people we meet.

"Usually things like ethics and morality. Rarely teaches about prophecy despite several members there showing interest in it. Hence why I use YouTube."

You see, expositional preaching covers everything, even those prophetical passages we may find in Scripture. But, I do listen to other preachers from other ministries to learn about other subjects.

"I also read you work in construction. Hows working a trade? I hear in an incredibly amount of irony, tradesmen now make a living better than college graduates. If I had any competency in math and science, I'd love to become an electrician. With construction I can understand why you'd be unemployed during the winter.

Well, it is desperate need than people actually realize. Where I live, they will literally look in the holes and ditches to find someone to join their crew. Even electricians can be hired here with minimal background, one of my friends transitioned from manager at a McDonalds to an electrician apprentice and makes good money.

We tend to view Canada in the direction America is heading toward in the next decade as progressive views are becoming more prevalent in all spheres of society in the West. I always think that our country is dominated by progressive views, but we a bit more conservative than Canada, United Kingdom, and Australia.
