• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hey all,

My best friend's mother was a victim of abuse as a child. She made it through raising her first three children holding herself together but in recent years she has been in and out of hospital due to having trouble dealing with memories of the abuse. She has even gone catatonic. This latest stent has left her in hospital for the better part of this year, with constant up and downs. I was wondering if anyone had any good support resources I could recommend?? Books, groups, anything!

thanks!

Hi, I'm new here, but one thing that has helped me tremendously is Theophostic Prayer Ministry (a type of Biblical counseling). But that would be more something for when she is out, I guess.
You would have to search "Theophostic Prayer Ministry" and find the official site, since I'm new and cannot post links.

I highly recommend The Wounded Heart by Dan Allender; it's available on Amazon, and you can read my review there. Make sure she also gets the workbook and begin there.

Although working the book will be the hardest six months or year of her life, as it was for me, hopefully it will be the most transformative and will help her reprogram her mind to accept that she is an infinitely loved, totally forgiven child of God through Jesus Christ.

I hope she can find the freedom from the pain of sexual abuse as many others have. The memories may never fade, but she can learn to remove the power those memories have over her daily life.

Please keep us updated on her progress.
