As someone already mentioned, Terri Blackstock (Covenant Child is one of my favs) is an awesome author. I also very much enjoy Karen Kingsbury (On Every Side is thought provoking), Dee Henderson (I couldn't put down the O'Malley series), Angela (Elwell) Hunt (fav series is The Heirs of Cahira O'Connor), Penelope Stokes(everything she has written is phenomenal); and Francine Rivers (although she can be a little racy at times).

As for non-fiction Liz Curtis Higgs is excellent. She's funny, and serious about her faith at the same time. Mad Mary, and her Bad Girls of the Bible (1 & 2) are incredible. Currently I'm reading about Corrie Ten Boom.

As for reading only Christian authors, I've found that with the exception of the classics (Hawthorne, Tolstoy, Dickens, Alcott, etc. ) most of the non-Christian authors tend to be rather explicit. I like Tami Hoag, and many of the mystery/crime writer's, but they are VERY explicit, and for some people (myself included) that's too much. So I actually APPLAUDE someone who says that for a time, or permanently if that's where GOD is leading them, they will restrict themselves to Christian authors only.

May God bless all of us.

? really but they talk about the experiances of those who are stuck opn earth after the rapture. what don't u like about them?

Pre-millenial dispensation is the heresy of chiliasm, condemned by the early church. It leads people to think they can date the coming of Christ by looking for the "signs." It's also viciously right-wing.

I don't think that there is anything wrong with the Left Behind series. I find them interesting, and they follow Revelation very well. I think that the authors did an excellent job of putting what will happen into a fictional context.

Jeff,

Definitely agree with the first two, however, I haven't heard of the others, are they Orthodox authors?

Charles Williams & George MacDonald were (I think) Catholic authors. Gogol was probably Othodox (though I never really knew what he believed, I just love his stories.)

Charles Williams was an Inkling along with CS Lewis and Tolkien, he was an Anglican. George MacDonald was a favorite of CS Lewis and was a Presbyterian. Gogol was Orthodox.
Yes I have read Gogol, Taras Bulba is my favorite, but I also liked Dead Souls, The Overcoat and The Nose.

Well, the Left Behind Series is fiction, it is not a christian book.

If you want some great christian writers I would recommend Chesterton, CS Lewis, and Tolkien.

Yes, I would also definitely recommend Chesterton as well, especially his books Orthodoxy and The Everlasting Man

"In reading Chesterton, as in reading MacDonald, I did not know quite what I was letting myself in for. A young man who wishes to remain a sound atheist cannot be too careful of his reading" - C.S. Lewis

"The world is not thankful enough for Chesterton"- George Bernard Shaw

actually all of Stu Weber's books. I'm sorry if someone already made these suggestions, I didn't get to read the entire post. Right now I'm reading So What's the Difference by Fritz Ridenour, but I'm looking for a book that compares as unbiasedly as possible the differences between Catholics and Protestants. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Well, I don't know how "unbiased" any such book would be....I would suggest instead simply finding books from both sides that present their teachings.

I mean, I don't know if you are looking simply for information on what each side believes, or if you are looking also for information on why each side believes what it does as well.....(if you are looking for the latter, please let me know)

But if you are simply looking for information on what each side believes, I cannot speak for the Protestant side (especially since there are various Protestant perspectives), but if you want an understanding of Catholic teaching, I would suggest The Catechism of the Catholic Church. (Which I know you can find online, though I don't happen to have the address at the moment.). I'm sure various Protestants on here can also make book recommendations that explain their beliefs.

By having the perspectives of both sides, then you would be in a better position to judge them for yourself. Hope that helps....

Yes, it does a little, but each side makes very good claims. I just don't know how I can choose. I was brought up Catholic but I have been in the company of Protestants for most of this past year and it has brought up some questions in my mind.

Well, if you wish to email me, I'd be more than willing to discuss these issues if you want. I was brought up Protestant (fundamentalist Baptist) and converted to Catholicism.

(Of course, I won't pretend to be "unbiased"; again, I don't think its possible for one to approach such issues in a totally unbiased manner.)
