  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The ESV Study Bible is a great tool with lots of information. The MacArthur Study Bible, too.

Matthew Henry's Commentary can be bought in full, unabridged or you can buy the set of 6 books if you'd prefer something a bit less bulky.

A worthwhile mention is also Gundry's New Testament commentary.

There are several two volume commentaries which are excellent IMHO. Here are two of my favorites:

The Bible Knowledge Commentary by Walvoord & Zuck (of Dallas Theological Seminary)

The Believers Bible Commentary by McDonald & Farstad

And there are two "Study Bibles" that I would recommend which are rich with commentary.

The ESV Study Bible

The MacArthur Study Bible
These are in no particular order as I own and use all 4 resources regularly. The MacArthur Study Bible comes in multiple translations, just FYI.

The two volume commentaries have much more commentary than the Study Bibles do, but the Study Bibles might be more convenient for you. If you can, buy them all :)

They are all available in Logos/Faithlife Bible Software as well.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Two excellent suggestions. The Believers Bible Commentary is a great commentary.

I haven't read the other one, but Dallas Theological Seminary is one of a few excellent and Godly institutions that I trust.

I need some help on looking for a verse by verse commentary on the whole bible. Any recommendations?
The Navarre Bible Commentary bears a look.

Hi Raptor, The Bible Knowledge Commentary is very similar to The Believers Bible Commentary, though it is different enough that I feel VERY blessed that I own them both :)

Thank you. I'll have to pick it up in the future some time. As it stands I've well and truly run out of space for books. My beloved commentary set by Calvin is, for the most part, boxed up to save space!
