  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

A Husband can help his wife with encouragement without being heavy-handed in a variety of ways :

1. You BOTH join a Fitness Center and do it together as 'a Team' .
2. The Husband adjusts HIS food plans to accomodate his wifes .. which usually means he will be eating alot healthier also.
3. The Husband shows his pride in his wife each time she looses 10-15 lbs. by buying her a new skirt/dress/fancy jeans/beautiful blouse to celebrate the accomplishment so far.
4. He ups the affection and sexual to validate her attractiveness to him and her ongoing determination to reach her final goal of weight loss.

Im not denouncing your Husband..its just that there are more tactful ways of going about it. Typically, making things a Team effort is a win-win situation for all involved.

I totally agree! I supported my husband in whatever he wanted to be involved in whether it was musically, or whatever hobby he decided to be into at the moment. He was multi talented so he had alot of interests and hobbies. But his idea of "encouraging" myself was to berade us. His previous wife, by his own account, he called her "fat" for over a year! He didn't do that to me, but he would say things like "are you really going to eat that?" but then later offer me cookies because he was eating them. He was naturally skinny and plus he worked construction in this God aweful heat so he had NO weight issues ever! Once he quit smoking he gained a few pounds and my step daughter who was about 14 at the time, said "Dad you're looking a little "thick"" so he went back to smoking.
But yeah, his way made me want to eat the WHOLE bag of cookies LOL. Since my mom taught me to use food as comfort (not her fault either) it's what I do sometimes. Not as much anymore, but I do love chocolate!

chocolate ... did someone say chocolate. cocoa comes from a plan and plants are part of one of those good groups, so chocolate is recommended by the USDA! :)

Hahaha! I don't care about the USDA they created the "food groups" in the first place to ensure dairy was part of our diet. Kind of biased. but I cannot live without chocolate.

Have a few little goals to start with. I sometimes go to the snack machine for one of those little bags of chips. I pretty much have substituted that for better snacks - I like sunflower seeds or raisins so I often go for that instead when I want a snack. I have greatly reduced drinking things like colas. I do like those 8 ounce glass bottles of Coke sometimes. But I am to the point where I can't drink more than that - more than that at one sitting seems yucky, somehow. I walk in a mall when it is too hot to take walks outside. If you smoke, you know the dangers with that, but quitting that is a big thing.

sadly my drink of choice is diet pepsi. I know, I know it's bad for me but ATM it is what it is, so please don't judge me I might fall apart. Besides it IS a full moon where I am right now, so I'm affected by that too.

I'll politely say, Diet Pepsi - it's an acquired taste! :p

While we are talking about health, I'll share this story. There was this older lady at work who was a heavy smoker. Anyway, I left that job and several years later, I happened to see her at a gas station, we chatted for a few minutes and I noticed that she had a little oxygen tank to help her breathe. A few years later I was shopping in a department store and I recognized her. Only this time she not only was on oxygen, she was in a self-propelled cart. A couple of years, I think, after that, I was in the same store and saw her again. This time she was in a wheelchair and someone was pushing her. Every time I saw her, she was visibly closer to the grave. That was some time ago and I imagine she must be dead by now. I'm normally not preachy about smoking, but I thought I would tell this story if anyone is on the fence about whether to stop smoking.

yeah but then you have people like George Burns that smoked like a fiend who lived to be 100. I'm not avocating smoking, but lets face it, none of us know our time but God. It was pre-destined before we were born. Some people live super healthy lives and die young, and others live like there's no tomorrow and they outlive everyone. Also look at Doctors. They "should" know all the tricks of the trade to live long, but the statistics show that they usually only live to be in their 50's. Not all, it's the average, so "they" say (whoever they is).
I think we should do our best to take care of our temple, but it is dying and has been since the day we were born. My mom did not smoke or drink and yet she died at age 58. Who knows why except God?

The older I get the more I think about how to maintain my health as long as possible, not that I can control everything. I think about things like that more than I did 20 years ago when I could still pretend to be young (sorta) and invulnerable. I have one sister who made very poor choices and she died before her time and her last years were miserable. That is an extreme case but our choices do matter.

Agreed! For me ATM, it's not that I don't think about taking better care of myself, but I have spent ALOT of years trying to take better care of myself and yet, here I am....so at times like these I don't want to overthink it too much IYKWIM  could just be a cop out because I'm tired of trying and failing but that's where I am ATM
