  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The movie Doctor Strange SFed the magic as merely "technology sufficiently advanced as to be indistinguishable from magic" the way they SFed Asgard.

But the comic book is based on a long standing history of the character in being a magician.
Sorcery is condemned in the Bible.
It was a movie I was not even willing to see even when I was watching certain Marvel films a little whle back. Now, I have put away worldly films altogether as a result of 1 John 2:15-17.
I would encourage others who truly want to follow Christ to do the same.

Sure its a good thing. I mean I know where you are going with this. But alot of people tend to say what they think is the only option. For example I seen the beheading videos when ISIS was releasing them. Some christians say "That's a sin to watch such evilness and gore!". Other christians said its good to watch them to see how evil people can be and to remind us others are persecuted around the world in very deadly ways.

My feeling has always been (as stated earlier) just because one person is offended by something (like an R rated movie) doesn't mean they should throw verses at the person who will do that something as if they are sinners and not saved. The Holy Spirit exists for a reason. Just because one is convicted of something doesn't mean they should tell everyone else they should be convicted to. I mean obviously we can all agree on somethings like taking Gods name in vain is bad no matter what. If you don't feel convicted about that then there is something wrong.

Again I am not saying watching a R rated movie is without problems. Obviously Jesus would not watch Deadpool. However in my case, I know mostly what affects me. And a movie like that doesn't so I watch it. With caution mind you. People can change. Which is why I generally avoid movies with excessive swearing because I don't want it tempting me into swearing like I used to.

And also admittedly, I do understand where people are coming from who are against R rated movies. I am the same way about halloween. I get annoyed that christians partake in it and I sometimes slip and say things in a offensive and sarcastic way. I throw verses at them and almost sound like I am questioning their salvation. So again, I get it. We are all guilty of being judgy sometimes. Which is why if I truly don't like a topic on here I try not to reply and just ignore it.

Prayfully read 1 John 2:15-17.

I was never a fan of the comic.

I have found most intentionally Christian films (not all, but most) to be so cheesy and America-centric as to be offensive.

Yes, there is a lot of junk out there.

However, there a few gems out there. I liked Timechanger, What If, Miracles from Heaven, Ben Hur (the remake), Prince of Egypt, and the crucifixion scene from the Son of God (the Bible mini series) and the footage following Jesus's resurrection in the Bible mini series (like with Paul).

The Ben-Hur remake was much better than reviewed...probably because it's much more blatantly Christian.

Prince of Egypt is great.

I liked the production values of Risen, especially the depiction of what it was like to be a Roman soldier assigned to Judea. But the Kumbaya of Peter with the centurion was so far away from scripture...no way was Peter going to accept a centurion at that point in time.

I found the movie much different then the original. I was surprised that the Christian Book Stores actually sold it. They even sold the new Noah and Exodus. Obviously they had not watched them or they would know they are nothing like the stories and if anything offensive.

Most christian movies aren't that great. They try to hard to make it feel great but fail. There are some that are better than others like Fireproof, Gods Not Dead...etc.

Prayfully read 1 John 2:15-17.

But we experience things though the world, for how we interact. What would a person do if they were entirely "not of the world"?
Exactly. I find most people who throw that verse around don't realize how hypocritical it is since no one is without sin. I mean yes, the movies I watch like Deadpool aren't what Jesus would watch. But you have your own sins. Maybe its swearing, maybe its porn, maybe its lying....etc. I'm definitely not saying I'm free to sin since you sin too. But I am saying the Holy Spirit will convict us if it feels what we do is an issue. I've given up alot of my "worldly" ways because of conviction.

These movies I have not been convicted by. However it has convicted me that I should avoid movies that use Gods name in vain or have nudity....etc. Which is why I don't own deadpool. Its also why my wife didn't see Logan or Hacksaw Ridge, she feels convicted about gore. Though she did see Deadpool, but after thats when the new conviction stepped in. Though she does freak out when she knows sharp weapons will be used as things to hurt/kill people.

I agree 100%.
The world does not like anything that is too preachy.

There was something special about Prince of Egypt. I don't even like anything that gets close to a musical, but I enjoyed it still somehow. Love the scene with Moses and the burning bush and Moses and the scene when Moses was told who he really was. It gave me the chills (in a good way).

I liked the scene where we see the eyes of Jesus after he died and the look of the soldier looking at him at this point. Very powerful. I also liked the scene of Jesus afterwards when he talked with Peter alone. The actor who played Jesus for this film was more like what Jesus might appear to be like.

You should definitely rent or buy "Time Changer" and "What If." The trailers do not do these films justice. They are dirt cheap to own if you can't find a place to rent them. I think you can see both of them still on Pureflix if I am not mistaken.
