  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I was watching Good Morning America not long ago and I saw a priest featured that I would like more information about.

I am not Catholic but seeing this priest on TV has had a big effect on my life.

It was during the scandals that the church was going through not long ago (I'm not sure when I saw the program) but ABC news was doing a positive feature on this particular priest.

I believe he was in San Francisco. He was walking through the streets of the city talking to the people located around his parish. He was talking to the drug addicts, alchoholics, and they all knew him by name as he did theirs. Something about him just touched me in a way I haven't forgotten.

Can anyone help me find out more about him?

Your best bet would be to contact the Diocese of San Francisco (if that is where you believe it took place) and find out his name and how yo can contact him. I will try and round up the phone number. Do you remember his name or the name of his parish that might help as well.

No I wish I did. Any help you can provide would be deeply appreciated.

Could this be him?

Msgr Hatman received his Doctor of Ministry degree from a Jesuit School in Berkley, which is just across the bay from San Francisco.

I couldn't see the picture--but I don't believe it is him. I don't believe this priest was very high up in the church. He had a church in a very rough section of the city. It was his ministering compassion that appealed to me so much. I had a strong desire to wear a cross since seeing that program. It's been the strangest feeling.

You could see the Christ like compassion as he talked to the people...it was stunning.

All I remember very well was that he was from the west coast.

I think the best option is to go to the Good Morning America Web Site and do an Advanced Search. I tried, but there were so many stories that dealt with the scandal that I wasn't sure where to start. You will probably have a better search because you can remember key words and phrases from the show that will help.
