Comparing Jesus' words to "fiction" "any shared story"?
Do have problems with pairing referents with the things they refer to.

Nothing in my post compared Jesus' words to fiction.

Though quite a good proportion of Jesus words are story in Luke, where he is the master at making up stories that teach essential truths.

The point here is that, whoever is saying it, "as it happened in... " can perfectly well refer to a piece of fiction, a myth, a parable, historical narrative, or pretty much any kind of story. It is not a statement that the story actually happened in history, but that what is about to be said is like what happened in the story referred to.

No doubt if TV had been around when Jesus was teaching he might well have alluded to well known characters and storylines to get his message across

I'm just saying, it happened, as did Jesus. Referring to the Genesis Flood. Are you saying it didn't?

Jesus did not say "it happened". Pulling two words from a sentence and making them stand alone is an inexcusable distortion of what the text says.

Then who said " Luke 17:26-27 (NASB)
26 "And just as it happened in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: 7 they were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they were being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. "

It was Jesus.

Jesus said the whole thing. You can't just take two words out. In the context of the whole phrase they are NOT an assertion that the story happened in history, but that what he is about to say is like what happened in the story.

As far as Jesus words are concerned, the story might be historical, or parabolic, or some other genre; it doesn't matter.

Why is there a lack of reading ability in Christendom?

I did think that, but I cannot believe the last bit is unintentional error. He has twisted Jesus and other posters words to suit his own purpose. Beyond calling him on it there's no point trying to continue a conversation.
