Hey chef, if you're so sure about things, how come that 2 mg. of methaphetamine can gives you high spirited emotions, nirvana, the feeling of flying and the dissapearing of space, time ?
Isn;t it about some reactions in your brain ?
Have you heard about 'metanoia' ? The change of mind or to be born again ?

Parables and metaphors can help you get past some preconcieved notions and prejudices that are holding you back. There is a "subliminal" effect (for lack of a better word.
Read this short story by Eudora Wiltey. "A Worn Path."
It is really heavy in this way, and leaves you feeling almost dizzy. The story is almost about nothing. Just an old lady walking to get some medicine. But the imagry used really puts you in a zone. There are things happening in your subconcious mind. I think this is sort of the effect that parables have on you... especially the first time you really listen to them, when your guard is down.
The book of Revelation is much like this also.

I'm saying that poeple can act spiritual. Taking drugs to alter your state of mind is different than using metaphors and parables. Jesus used parables and metaphors so people could understand Him.

If people could understand these parables and metaphors, why is after the teaching, to the masses, he had to explain their meaning to the apostles? I think it was meant to provoke deep thought and contemplation, creating more questions and thus bringing back new followers. Good way to develop a following and get the true Word out there, I must add.
