  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I do not mind living alone most if the time.

But there are a few times I HATE it:
Unexpected and / or undetermined noises.

I have an inside cat. Was declawed before I got him.
All of a sudden I hear a cat fight - growling and hissing!!

I freak - the cat comes running in the room shaken up.
I am thinking do I go see if there is actually another cat in the house.
There is no possible way. And what am I going to do if I find one.

Apparently the cat was sitting in the open window and a cat outside decided to have "words" with him.
I turned on the outside light and did see a cat wandering away.

I used to freak out when my cats would suddenly become 'alert' and stare at the front door. I guess I don't worry anymore. I've been alone for so many years I've become numb to the possibilities. If anyone did come in and harm me no one would notice outside of work anyway.

I'll add that it's very difficult when:

Every single show on television shows someone trim of figure showing affection to someone or displaying themselves.

- Almost no real people don't look like that
- Those on television like that have been really made up
- And it reminds you of what you don't have!

A good time to turn off the TV and go to God with what you do have. :^)
(also a good time for prayer that God will bring you to continued comfort with His providence, and to pray for His blessings in your hopes).

I don't mind living alone either, but I do hate the weird noises...or if someone unexpected comes to the door late at night. I always think "do I go flip the porch light on so I can see who it is (but then they'll know someone's home if I don't answer)...or do I just ignore it?" And I also don't like living alone when I'm sick. Sometimes if I'm feeling really sick, I wonder how long it would take someone to find me if I died. :p

I moved out on my own @ the begining of last year myself. and to tell you the truth I was scarred stiff for the first few weeks. I used to sleep with a loaded 22 right beside my bed (alot of good it would do inthe dark :) ).

The only time that I have been freaked out sicne the first few weeks was about three months ago when I had somebody about 10:30 pm come and ring my doorbell and when I got there no one was there.

On I forgot about the time that I had the Witness protection program calling my Home Phone every 2 hours on the button to tell me that some guy that they had was no longer in their custody, Apparently the people didn't change the # when they moved and I didn't get a lick of sleep that night (talk about freaking out).

That's worthy of some blessings...

Thank you. I prefer dogs myself.

To the OP:You should get a German Shepherd. Then you won't have to worry about living alone.

Myself I never open the door to ANY stranger any time of day.
Sometimes they get upset because they can see me in the house.
And they start knocking harder and ringing the door bell.
For some reason they think I HAVE to respond. NO I DO NOT.

When I am sick I make sure family knows so they can check in later just in case.
I had a previous boss whose single daughter was found in a coma. She is okay now.
It was work that alerted folks there was a problem when she did not come in or call.

Yup, living alone can really bite. I've lived alone for a decade or better, I don't have much problem with the day to day things like night time door bells and the like, they don't freak me out. Then again I live in a "smallish" town of about 27,000. The parts I hate are cooking for 1 and eating it for a week and then having to still throw some away, waking up at 2 am to a bat in my bedroom flying around me in the bed and always rambling the house by myself when I am home.

Now the perks... no one cares if I don't cook, but me. I can throw my clothes on the floor if I choose to. I can drink out of the milk carton if I wanted to. I can sleep in the middle of my big bed! I can stay up late and cruise this site for hours as I please or just watch a movie late. I don't have to worry about toilet seat issues. If I am in the middle of something and change my mind and do something else, no one will ask me to pick up the abandoned project so we can eat at the table.

But.... I'd give up the perks of living alone for the mate God has for me any day!

Hee hee. I've often wondered the same thing myself.

Like HisChild, I hate cooking for one. It's so frustrating. If you do make something, you're eating it for the next 12 days.

I actually don't mind living alone. I like my space, but do have to say that it does get lonely at times. Little things don't freak me out much anymore. I have, in the past, have had the bajeeberz scared out of me and ended up going back to sleep at night with my sneakers on and a baseball bat, ready to run and fight.

Although I like dogs, I think cats are a better pet for a single working person, because of their relative independence and being less demanding. If you have a dog, it would be good to have 2, so they wouldn't be lonely. But a cat is content by themselves. Dogs provide more security as far as barking when strangers come by, but that can also be an annoyance to neighbors and visitors.

I have 4 cats (a stray female who is semi-wild and her 3 semi-tame grown kittens). They are strays that I have adopted, and that is the limit of pets I am allowed to have without a special permit. They stay in the backyard, and on my back deck.

The neighbors have a cocker spaniel and a chihuahua. They bark continously sometimes for hours when I am trying to sleep (perhaps my cats are teasing them) and when a fire truck goes by...along with all the other dogs in the neighborhood (but cats take fire trucks in stride....they aren't so easily fooled). :)

Amen sister!!!! I know exactly about that........

I used to love to cook. But now just doing it for one makes no sence to me at all.

It also can get kind of depressing if I let is since no one ver calles me. My phone might ring tweice a week and they are usually wrong numbers.

~~makes mental note to self~~~
Never go over to Caelda's house late @ night unless I was to "play ball" haha:cool:

I've learned to freeze stuff in individual sized portions and the George Foreman Grill is my friend.

Hey, no calls can be good calls. At least you're not getting weird calls from the guy the Witness Protection Progam no longer had in custody. That's a good thing. ;)

:D No longer have the bat . . . I wonder what happened to it? Feel free to come over, but in about a month. I'm hopefully moving into a new place then and can use someone to help me. :pink:

Yes, cooking for 1 is kind of annoying. It can be cheaper just to eat fast food sometimes (considering how much food you waste after you refuse to eat leftovers the 12th time!). Cooking a meal and then freezing individual portions can be a real time/money saver. That topic will be my inspiration for a new thread!
