So, earlier at work, I had this amazing experience with Prayer and our Beloved Lord.
I was about to go on break (I work in a grocery store) and I simply did not want to eat junk food, which is what I usually end up having to eat when I only have a half-hour break, because a half-hour break is not enough time to have any sort of serious meal.
Anyways, I said "Lord... I really don't feel like junk food today... I ate a mish-mash of stuff yesterday and that stuff isn't even very healthy.. could You help me out with this?" And on my way up to the break room, a good friend of mine, one of my coworkers, was heading out the door as she was done with her shift, and she was heading into the break room to gather her stuff and she mentioned a birthday cake she baked for a new employee's birthday and told me not to eat too much of it.
I grumbled something about "I haven't even figured out what I feel like eating for supper..." and she goes "I have some (insert food I have no idea what she called it here, some kind of rice dish with sausage, beans, etc) in my bag, go ahead and eat it!"
I was like "you sure..!?" and she's like "Sure! go ahead!" and I'm like "wow, thanks!"
It was really yummy. I've never had that particular dish before, and it was so out-of-the-blue that she had this extra food on her that she could just give me just like that, and it just happened to be less than 2 minutes after I said that short little prayer while walking around the store grumbling over what to actually eat on my break.
Thank you, Lord... Thanks for the little things like that, that You do in my life.
This brings to me a subject that I was really meaning to touch on: the Bible says we're to be 'constantly in prayer' (I don't remember how exactly this is worded; I think there's more than one verse that mentions this IIRC), and some people have this... thing where they are afraid of asking Him for petty little stuff like this.
I used to think like this too, but lately I'm thinking the opposite -- He wants us to pray MORE. He wants to hear from us. He wants to hear our worries, our questions, He wants us to ask Him for advice, even for little things like that. Every time we do, our minds are on Him, and not on the things of the world. When He fills our minds, we're happy. When we're asking Him, we're being obedient. We're re-affirming to ourselves that He is Lord, and that even our menial day-to-day decisions ought to be His and not ours. We're showing Him that we trust and love Him that we'd ask Him for anything, even what we should eat.
This is several times now that I've asked Him about menial little stuff and He delivers, and when He delivers, He does it in style; The most perfect things end up happening, and it is always a "You Know it is from God when it worked out This perfectly." type thing that keeps our faith good and strong.
So, Pray. Pray Often. Pray about everything. I'm convinced He wants to hear from you about nearly anything. Doesn't have to be formal prayer, doesn't have to be said in a certain way, a simple "Lord, what do you think I should do about this?" or "Lord, what should I eat?" or "Lord, please help me out with this..."
I've been praying more and I'd like to pray even more than I currently do, but sadly the day-to-day distractions will sometimes keep my mind off Him for hours in a day and later on I'll wish I had said more to Him.
