  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Ok Linux Gurus :)

Got an AMD2500 W/ 640M ram (512M & 128M Stick)

100G Harddrive Is Also in use (either 160 or 50G HD will also be added (depending on which one is good)

Intended Use for system
Web / Database server for Web Development
(So I'll be using PHP / Apachie / MySQL Minimum)

Would like to be able to run multiple domains internally with a private DNS so I can connect to it and run personal domains for testing (I.E. Windows would grab IP address first from the Linux Box, then the rest of the Internet)
This way I can do testing inhouse ect.

So far the one Install DVD I've got in mandriva Linux from last year

I wouldn't use Mandriva for a LAMP/DNS server, I'd use a Debian or Ubuntu server install instead.

Ubuntu as a LAMP option on the server install CD.

As of the DNS, it seems you might want to have a DNS+DHCP server on the server, so you can provide IPTs to your machines, too.

I agree that Debian is not a great idea, especially as you can't exactly know when the new version with new software is being released. Ubuntu is more user-friendly (although there's not much of a difference on a server actually) and is released once every 6 months. You could also use Ubuntu 6.06 LTS (Dapper Drake) which will be supported 5 years for the servers.
