The article is much too long to bother reading; howver, I did find these remarks siginificant.

The results of this study indicate that individuals who scorein the homophobic range and admit negative affect toward homosexuality​

demonstrate significant sexual arousal to male homosexual erotic stimuli. These individuals were selected on the basis of their report of having only heterosexual arousal and experiences. Furthermore, their ratings of erection and arousal to homosexual stimuli were low and not significantly different from nonhomophobic men who demonstrated no significant increase in penile response to homosexual stimuli. These data are consistent with response discordance where verbal judgments are not consistent with physiological reactivity, as in the case of homophobic individuals viewing homosexual stimuli.​

Future research should focus on several issues. First, more reliable scales for measuring homophobia should be devised that incorporate cognitive, affective, and behavioral components. Second, the issue of whether homophobic individuals meet the definitional criteria for simple phobia should be investigated by determining whether these individuals experience anxiety or avoidance when confronted with homosexual cues. Third, the issue of whether homophobia is specific to men or may also occur in women has not been addressed systematically, nor is it clear whether homophobic women may show sexual arousal to erotic lesbian stimuli. Fourth, it has been claimed that homophobic individuals have poor heterosexual adjustment, and this issue should be documented. With answers to these and similar issues, a clearer understanding of the nature of homophobia will be possible.​

The study is also a little dated, although I don't know if that's meaningful.

Someone started a similar thread a month or two ago, and it certainly wasn't missed that the homophobes of the forum were avoiding that particular thread like the plague. No doubt they will avoid this thread too.

It seems telling the homophobes that they are actually gay is the greatest weapon in shutting them up.

Can't say this is surprising. So this does mean that a homophobe is at least aroused by two men having sex. I think that's part of the reason why there is so much focus on male homosexuality.

And that is how so many social conservatives, doubtful of their ability to control their own base desires, projecting their own weakness and confusion on the rest of humanity, come to be what they are. That is why they rail for strictness in the home and to have morality encodified in law. They perceive an imminent threat from which we must be protected, but cannot grasp that the source of the danger lies within themselves.

Does this mean that the mass of those who appear to be values-obsessed Republicans are in fact pedophiles-in-waiting, repressed homosexuals, thieves but for the opportunity? Far from it. They are, like all people everywhere, generally decent, doing their best to get by and willing to live and let live. But it does mean that there is something in their experience with their family or with their community that leads them to believe that people are not to be relied upon to contain their malign urges.

No, it is not hard to identify those who pose the greatest danger to us. Like all who are incapable of self-examination, they are oblivious to their own transparency. They are the ones that shout the loudest, that spew warnings of moral decay and transgression, that seek to harness the fear they engender to advance their own power and influence, that seek to raise an army of the self-righteous to march on the seat of wickedness and hypocrisy.

This was written shortly after Larry Craig's little airport incident last year, which is why it focuses so much on conservatives. But the recent scandal regarding Eliot Spitzer shows that this behavior trumps political leanings, and has much more to do with folks who decide to play morality police.
