  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was chasing a rabbit trail on a subforum and the topic lead to lingerie.

He thought husbands going to places like Victoria's Secret "to buy skimpy stuff" was sinful. He would never let his wife wear the stuff there, in fact, he would never buy lingerie for her. "Why can't she but it herself?" he retorted.

Ergo, I was sinning if I went to Victoria's Secret to buy my wife lingerie. And therefore a bad witness if another Christian saw me enter there.

Mind you, he was 16, and the original OP was gambling.

Nonetheless, I offered to start a post here in the married forums so he can have a peek if husbands actually buy lingerie for their wives, and what you (husbands and wives) thought about you DH buying lingerie, and at places like Victoria's Secret.

So, do you?

The sin is that, if I bought my spouse lingerie, it'd probably be poorly-chosen, which would be a kind of thoughtlessness.

Apart from that... I can't imagine what the concern is. I think you are dealing with a modern Pharisee.

That is funny. :D

I'm pretty lost there too, so I do rely on the saleswomen for guidance (and no, she doesn't 'model' for me).

Nope, dont think its sinfull at all, if it helps in the bedroom and the woman feels comfortable then its all good :D

Now lets look at this closer Did God say to a woman if you have lustly thoughts you have allready sined, nope i dont see that in the bible i do see God saying it to a man tho.

So what does that tell us you might ask.

Men are stimulated by sight, what they see and can be ready for coitus in seconds. ( that is offcourse one way im not saying its the only way at all )
Woman are not that way inclined and need more preparation for them to be ready for coitus

My thoughts and two cents worth

God Bless

I don't think buying lingerie is a sin. In fact, I'm thinking of buying the future Mrs. some lingerie.

For a future Mrs.? - inappropriate, in my book.

For a married man? Shop till you drop!

The challenge is fit. Even if a garment is the right size, women's sizes are pretty meaningless. Most women have clothing in their closets that cover 4 or 5 sizes. Also, different styles call for different sizes. So a surprise gift can be downright painfu, embarassing or insulting. Shopping together while he learns what will work can be a fun and helpful experience in the beginning.

I would be happy if my husband bought me lingerie. I don't think it is a sin to do such. I will tell a funny story about my husband buying me undies. He knew the size I wore in dresses was a 16 so he figured the size for undies is the same. WRONG!! I opened up the package that the undies were 4 feet wide. I laughed so hard till I cried!!! He learned a sizing lesson that day. I was only two feet wide.

I just had a mental image of you unfolding these giant underwear with your arms stretched as far as they'd go! ^_^

I love it when my husband buys me lingerie. It doesn't happen often, because he doesn't like much of it (plus most of it is covered in evil lace that I can't wear), but it is certainly a nice surprise when it happens.

Mind you, he was 16, and the original OP was gambling.

Dare I ask how you got from one to the other? LOL
It is sad though. It seems that many Christian youth ("youth" includes all people younger than me ;)) believe that more and more about sex is sinful. In fact I've even seen people mention that they believe a person is less of a Christian if they have sex, even with a spouse (bonus points if they buy lingerie, etc.). I think it's one of the more tragic consequences of our culture.

Yeah, I had an engaged friend who's fiance bought her lingerie and they had a special 'not until the wedding' box they kept it in. I thought this was a little risque but I don't think it hurt them. They're happily married and he's studying to be a minister.

My hubby's wouldn't buy me lingerie, if for no other reason than he can't imagine going into the shop, can't stand looking at the catalogs and doesn't see the point anyway. (He's of the 'it's only going to wind up on the floor anyway' mentality.)

I buy stuff for myself but I have to check with him first, usually. He has an inexplicable aversion to black lace!

My husband and I have always felt the same way. He doesn't mind a cute little nightgown but anything too complicated just annoys him.
The only thing I see sinful about it is the fact that a pair of extremely tiny thongs can take me forever to put on.....for some reason I can't quite figure out which side is up. (or back, side, or front for that matter) Maybe it's TMI but you can call me Mrs. Granny Panties. LOL!

But seriously, on topic....it's just like any other pair of clothing you put on if you are married. As long as it respects the marriage and no one minds who is buying it, what does it matter?
