  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Honestly what is it???
It was never an official teaching of the Church. Just a theological opinion. It’s where it is thought unbaptized infants who die, whether through miscarriage or abortion, enjoy complete natural happiness but do not see God face to face.

So the limbo is in limbo?
It was never an actually teaching. Just a medieval theological opinion. It’s the same as it’s always been. Some lean towards that opinion, others discard it.

So the limbo is in limbo?
Well, it would seem that the answer is mixed. When the Church a few years ago said that the fate of the unbaptized babies should be left to the mercy of God, such language certainly downplayed the possibility of Limbo. However, I do not believe that the Church actually ruled one way or the other on the existence of Limbo. Hence, you could make a case that the fate of Limbo is more or less in limbo. I guess that unless the Church one day rules definitively on the subject, then only God knows if the Limbo taught by Augustine is a real place or not.
