  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

What did you do as a kid when the electricity would go out?
I don't know (that was a long time ago), but nowadays, in cold weather, I had to a motel where there's heat.

My parents always tried to make it "fun". Candles and flashlights. Pretending we were camping, but inside. If it was winter and the power would be out overnight we would all sleep in the family room in front of the fireplace. I've always been a reader so as long as I had a flashlight and a book I was pretty content.

We used candles, kerosine lamps, flames from the propane heater, and sometimes flash lights. We would play board games or talk a lot. We didn't have much for TV during my growing up years anyway. We listened to a lot of music and entertained ourselves in other ways whether there was electricity or not. I think the biggest concern when the electric was out had been the food ruining in the fridge and freezer.

Used electricity from batteries. Gameboy and whatnot would still work.. never had power outage more than a few hours. Some people in our neighborhood also had electric generators.

I found it exciting, dad would light candles around the house and I'd start playing hide and seek or something like that with my sisters.
