• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why don't you just enjoy the show? I love lightning ^_^

There's no reason to panic, if you get hit you are dead, and the ones that don't hit means that your still alive. So logically there's no reason to worry about those that miss you, and well if you get hit , then you don't have to goto school tomorrow =D

Life is easy from another point of view ^_-

Hi,
I was wondering what made you have a fobia to lightning?
I didn't have a "phobia" before May, which is when my neighbor's house was hit. Before then I was scared but starting to get over it and then my neighbor's house got hit by lightning :(

I will pray for you.
Thanks.

The only time I remember not being afraid of storms was when I was seven, and living in a big city. When I moved to a tiny town in North Carolina I was scared. Earlier this year I was less scared and starting to get over it but then my neighbor's house got hit and now I have a phobia. In band camp we were setting drill to a song and we saw lightning (not heading our way, thank Jesus) and I was right in the middle of the practice field and instantly freaked out. Another time we were setting drill to a different song and we kept hearing thunder and I was getting more and more scared each time... eventually I had to go inside because I was so scared. That's when I had the panic attack...

And I just realized, every time there's a storm, I feel disconnected, like I'm in a dream, and kinda dizzy and like it's the end for me. :(

You can't control lightning. It's just one of those things that a human can't affect. Sure, we have lightning rods and all that, but where the lightning hits isn't up to us. Having a fear of lightning is healthy, it means you don't go out carrying a large metal pole while lightning is striking around you. Being paralyzed by it is an irrational fear, though. The chance of being hit by lightning is extremely small, probably much smaller than being in a "normal" accident, like a car wreck.

You icon says atheist, but as a christian I find great comfort in asking for God's protection and for His will to be done. That way, if I do get hit by lightning, God will be with me, and things will be all right.

I suppose the bottom line is that it's a dangerous world. No matter how much you worry or fear, you can't change where that lightning will hit, so why bother being worried. Thunder has a mighty sound and lightning looks scary, but that doesn't make it more deadly. Worry about what you can change, not about what you can't.

I have a lightning phobia. Everytime there's a storm I have a panic attack. I really need help. :(

A good friend of mine once said, "Whenever lightning strikes, smile. God's just taking a picture of you."

:)

Don't be afraid, God is always with you. He's created everything on this earth and beyond. I prefer to view lightning as yet another amazing creation God has made. Over time, I hope you learn to appreciate it in awe of His power. But fear not, for though you walk through the valley of the shadow of death, fear nothing, for God is with you wherever you go.

To be honest, I don't really believe there is a God, but thanks. I like lightning when I'm far enough from it where I don't hear the thunder. I just hate it when I do hear thunder because that's when I know it's close enough to hit something very close to me. :(

Hey,
Thunder is only a noise.it can't hurt you.
Lightning is really neat.
Have you ever seen lightning go from cloud to cloud, instead of cloud to ground?
It's interesting you don't believe in God.
Can you tell me your version of how earth and man were formed?
Chuck.

I don't mean to be intruding or uber-Christian or anything, but would you mind just telling me why you don't think there is a God? If you don't want to answer, that's fine. It's just that I'm always a bit curious when someone says that.

Anyways, yeah when I'm extremely close to lightning, I get a bit freaked out too. I'm a little bit paranoid about just about everything (I can't even take out the garbage at night without constantly looking around for kidnappers and the sort). So I totally get what you mean about being in such close range with lightning and thunder. But it's not thunder we should be too worried about. I mean, sound is still just sound no matter how loud. Thunder's not going to be damaging enough to do any real, permanent harm to us at all. As for lightning, just close your eyes. Avoid open areas where you're the tallest object. You can probably find some safety hints on Google or something. Hope everything works out alright.

Hi,
I was just thinking, Something i don't do too often.
Have you done any research on lightning to see what the real percentages of being struck are?
I'd look it up and read all about it.
I go out in storms quite a bit, I think it's a bit of Okay.
