  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Lifting your burdens

Oftentimes I hear of new Christians speak of their burdens being lifted when they come to Jesus. They feel like a great weight has been removed from their shoulders and their hearts. I have not experienced that, even though I have been a Christian for a few years. I still feel burdened with various problems, and no matter how much I pray or read the Bible, they are not going away. It just got me to wondering if I was really saved or have I been fooling myself? How do you get to the point where you can trade in your burdens for Jesus' yoke which is light and easy? If I don't experience that, does that mean He is not truly in my heart??

My Dear Sister R:

Why would anyone read the bible and pray if he did not believe in the goodness of God the Father? Do not let others (or their testimonies) make you lose your heart. After all, if experience was that important, shouldn't we all seek the experience of reaching the third heaven rather than the experience of unburdening? Or the experience of seeing the shining light?

Therefore, do not lose your heart. The Lord's words are loud and clear as recorded in the bible (Hebrews 10 and 12):

Do not therefore abandon that confidence of yours;
it brings a great reward.

Therefore lift your drooping hands and straighten your week knees,
and make straight paths for your feet.

In your struggle,
you have not yet reached the point of shedding your blood.

You will receive your reward for being faithful in seeking the Lord through bible reading and prayers. I will pray for you with other brothers and sisters of Deeper Fellowship.

In my opinion people who don't go through troubles are still in sin, because Jesus asks us to enter the narrow door, against the flow of the world, which equals resistance. I think the more you feel troubled and yet keep your eyes focused on God, not his lifting of your burdens, the more you will be blessed by Him who saved you. The Bible says that we will be blessed the more we are persecuted and troubled. I hope this helps you.

I don't think being a Christian means that we are 100% free from burdens in life. No matter whether Christian or not a Christian, everyone has his/her fair share of burdens/troubles. Even the baby Christians will (sooner or later) have their share of troubles in this lifetime. As far as why you still have some burdens that don't go away? It just may be that God keeps certain "thorns" at our side (like Paul had) to keep us humble and close to Him. God is so awesome that He can even use burdens for His glory and we can rise above those thorns by remaining faithful and steadfast in God's love.

Don't be discouraged in your walk with God. Certain burdens will be lifted by God and others may remain to help us draw closer and rely upon God's strength to endure. His ways are perfect. May God lift your spirits when your burdens are not lifted. God bless you.

I have heard of similar things and at times it can be disheartening .... perhaps though it is in the nature of the burdens ... sometimes there are things that we need healing from that can take time as God works patiently and lovingly in our lives ... please believe that He is also working in you and don't judge your experience based on those others have

There are lot of persons in the Bible who were very burneded inspite of it they were men of God.

Living with God doesn't mean that we have a light and easy life, we have same sufferings, burdens, anguish... as others, but as Christians we are not alone. Jesus who suffered more than any of us knows our worries and is there for us, walks with us how hard our life may be. Lean on him, and let him know how you are. And even if there is no change about how things are, it may help you as you know that God knows, and one day you'll notice that he has helped you to get through tough times. May God bless you.

Riven,

Remember David. He was a man with a true heart for God. His burdens were very heavy and God did not always see fit to lift them right away. Read the Psalms. Many times David cries out to God. He was persecuted for being God's chosen one. Sometimes it is the presence of our budens that brings us closer to God. Because we then truly learn to trust in Him.
