Lifestyle vs. Attraction

Dear Ohioprof,
There's a rundown of my horribly sinful "homosexual lifestyle," with a vivid description of my varied "homosexual behavior."
What you have described is of course nothing specifically to with heterosexual or homosexual lifestyle. So I dont think you can have understood the question. Nonetheless, where is your daughter's father in all this?

I adopted my daughter from Guatemala. On the papers filled out by her birth mother, her birth father is listed as "unknown." So the answer to your question is that I don't know. And I never will.

Some day, if my daughter wants me to, I will try to track down her birth mother.

I understood the question. I am telling folks that a "homosexual lifestyle" doesn't exist. Gay people, like all people, have different lifestyles. I live a mommy lifestyle mostly, and a work lifestyle. There is no "sexual" in my life at all right now. But I am still a gay person.

Phinehas,

You might be interested in looking at my blog. It's not about the adoption, which took place 5 years ago, but it does focus on my relationship with my father and how I have dealt with his death in May of this year. It includes posts about my daughter.

I'm not trying to market my blog, but you might be interested in taking a look at it. To make the best sense of it, you have to start at the earliest post. Otherwise, by reading from the top, you read backwards in time, and it might be a little confusing.

God bless you, thats wonderful. :)

So you are a step-mother.

I understand that having same-sex attraction doesn’t necessarily mean ones lifestyle is any different, although you seem to be now telling me gay people do have different lifestyles, but for sure Christians have different lifestyles to non-Christians (however much we fall short)

So you are a step-mother.

I'm not speaking for Ohioprof here but I just thought Id point out the dictionary definition of "step-mother" seeing as you are so fond of Dictionary defenitions (from dictionary.com)

step·moth·er

Stepmother is to do with re-marriage, not adopting.

I dont necessarily disagree with you. There is however a Christian lifestyle, our lifestyles are dedicated to seeking to follow Jesus Christ in what He did and taught as in the NT.

You're right, but in many externals, there is little discernible difference between a Christian's lifestyle and a non-Christian's lifestyle. To take my lifestyle as one example; I wake up, I have a shower, I eat breakfast, I take the bus to work whilst reading a book, I spend the day at work and lunch around 2:00pm, I return home, sometimes calling in at the shops to pick up some groceries, I eat dinner, I watch some TV, I catch up on emails and the internet, I go to bed. You'll find many non-Christians with a similar lifestyle. You'll also find many people of all sexualities - homosexual, heterosexual, bisexual, et al - with similar lifestyles.

So how would you label my "lifestyle"?

David.

life·style - the habits, attitudes, tastes, moral standards, economic level, etc., that together constitute the mode of living of an individual or group.

Unfortunately Lifestyle is such a general, tossed around word that even I often overlook what it really means. I suppose when I usually think of lifestyle i think that its habits that i specifically portray. For example my lifestyle had some repetitive struggles but it also had reoccurring victories as well. The style in which you run your life... I suppose one could think that it could apply to just about anything, after all everyone has a unique style about them and we can be very unique. Yet we often use the word lifestyle to pertain to a large group of people who may or may not share anything but one factor in common and there is where the meaning of the word starts to get slippery for me.

The "Gay Lifestyle" "Lifestyle of the Rich and Famous" Its a borderline prejudice remark about people, but if their seems to be a common theme with people who are of a certain disposition then often a "lifestyle" can be drawn together. Ultimately i don't think its fair to judge people based on lifestyle even if that lifestyle may in some way's be an accurate description of what that person may fill their time and activities with, ultimately I believe everyone is unique and while we all follow trends and do things that everyone likes to do, like buy an iPod or go to a Movie, we are all ultimately special.
