I define sentience as an animal that is able to suffer. I know that there is a fuzzy line, somewhere between insects and larger animals, and there would be unavoidable insect death in any scenario, ants would be killed from us merely walking around.
And this isn't something to dismiss without thought, it is a serious issue but the way I see it, that our actions would almost certainly lead to unavoidable insect death, or other killing which is wholly unintentional, this isn't a reason not to do the very best that we could.
The principle of truthism regarding what we must do is that humans must do the best that we can, and if we did nature and life would change accordingly.
