We don't have dominion over animals. We have responsability to animals.

I define sentience as an animal that is able to suffer. I know that there is a fuzzy line, somewhere between insects and larger animals, and there would be unavoidable insect death in any scenario, ants would be killed from us merely walking around.

And this isn't something to dismiss without thought, it is a serious issue but the way I see it, that our actions would almost certainly lead to unavoidable insect death, or other killing which is wholly unintentional, this isn't a reason not to do the very best that we could.

The principle of truthism regarding what we must do is that humans must do the best that we can, and if we did nature and life would change accordingly.

I understand that without life nothing else matters to the individual, practically. But sometimes I see the things people say about how the world works and I wonder at just how much like a drug "life" has become. I see people ready to trade almost anything for life, including intellectual freedom and liberty, and I ask myself how I would have felt, in an LCV about to dump me onto the beaches of Normandy or Tarawa, if I knew how little my sacrifice would really end up meaning to so many people in 60 years. It's fine talk to spurt about honor and respect, but when you really back someone into a corner I find more and more often this is just repeated propaganda and not real awareness of what sacrifice means in the cause of a free society and a progressive people.

So the question is at what point would you trade your life for principal? What matters enough to cause you to give the one thing you may still own away? How much liberty will you trade for security? What would it take to make you give up your family? Your neighborhood?

Finally, theists, would you be willing to make the sacrifice if there were no God? If it meant simply the end if you and nothing else for you?

Answering your question.
I think I would lay down my life for a friend or a stranger depending on who the stranger was. A young child or me?
I would choose me. A grown adult or me?
I guess that would depend on what I knew of the person.

I live near Detriot and roughly two months ago me and three friends were held up at gun point. Four guys aproached us and two of them had guns. A sawed off shotgun and a .25
We had no cash and they didnt get anything. They were also caught shortly after trying to mug someone else.

I was scared but my anger overpowered my fear. I wanted to take the gun from one of them very badly. I didn't, I was worried what might happen to my friends had I tried to force the gun from one of them.
I would have to say at that moment had I been alone I would have very easily taken a pretty high risk with my life.

I would also have to say, God was with me.
