  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was Just wondering how many people in here actually know what their life purpose is?

I have no idea what mine is and to be honest its stressing me out.

Its a new year and I have no idea in which direction I should go, I was going to move ad go to Uni and do a BCA in accounting. But no body thinks it a good idea. Now im back to square one and have no idea what I should be doing this year.

Does anyone have any advice. Is this a Problum with anyone else??

I think my life's purpose is to take in and care for abused and neglected animals..particurly of the livestock variety..horses, etc. My goal is to own alot of property where I can shelter these animals and hopefully get some of them relocated to better homes. It is my dream. Though who knows I could be wrong and God might smack me on the head and show me where I'm supposed to go! But this is what I think my purpose is.

I think what you did, getting counsel from others, was a wise thing to do, even though it kind of shot down your plans. (Pr. 24:6 and others)

You may just have to wait, continuing in prayer and in the Word, before God makes His plans known to you. Also, do what you can in your church, see where God uses you. That may be an important clue, even if your purpose is in the secular arena.

It took me a while to find mine, but I'm pretty sure of where and what I'm purposed to do and be.

Also, don't forget Ecc. 12:13. Anything that detracts from this, well, you know it's the wrong path then.

God bless

The most important purpose for me in life is to know Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior and to be a witness for him in my actions and in my words. God has given my life much purpose in addition such as being a wife and mother. Being an advocate and caregiver to my son who has Duchenne Muscular dystrophy. Being a good nurse to my patients, being a good friend, etc. And in all of this, I must depend on God and trust in him to get me through. I don't know what the future holds in my own personal life but I know God will be my guide.

I haven't adequately defined my life-purpose - I think it's understand/explore perfection as much as possible. The trick then is finding a career which supports that.

When I was in college I didn't know what I wanted todo, so I majored in engineering because it would pay the bills until I come to such a realization. While I don't enjoy my job at the moment, it serves its purpose and an easy-money degree involving work that doesn't inspire me is still preferrable to a less-money degree involving work that doesn't inspire me.

For whatever it's worth, I don't know that I would equate my chosen career with the "life purpose" God mapped out for me. Being a librarian is great and fulfilling and all, but is that what it's really all about? I don't think so...
Perhaps my life purpose doesn't have anything to do with how I earn a paycheck, but how I'm able to interact with other people-- how I'm able to witness to them, share with them, serve them, etc.-- and use the variety of gifts/skills I've been given (job-related and otherwise) to glorify and serve God.

i also believe that everything in life is related, so you shouldn't be paralyzed by a fear that you have to figure it all out right now. things change and you can change paths according to what is shown to you. for me, professionally, i got a degree in business and marketing. i am now an artist and thinking about persuing a phd in art history. they are seemingly disparate fields, but i have found so much crossover that i wouldn't have had it any other way. i've learned so much during this journey of figuring it out. as i was leaving my job a few years ago to go back to school my boss, who's 25 years older than me, said "you know, we're all just trying to figure it out." and to me, the greatest thing is how all the parts seemingly play into the whole--if you choose to learn from everythin. call it God's mysterious ways, i suppose. to me, i just see the whole world as being related and what you have to do is be in tune with yourself and God's will and go from there. going into one field and deciding it's not right for you isn't necessarily a bad thing. in fact, it could open up boundless opportunities and ways of interacting with the world. i say, be open to everything and don't be afraid to try something only to find that it's not exactly what you think is right. chances are you'll learn something valuable and you can ALWAYS change, no matter what. don't be afraid.

I agree with all those who have said that your true purpose is to serve God.

But I believe you have a second part to your question. Since everyone else gave their 2 cents about you in accounting, which is wise do BTW, you have to realize that the decision is still up to you. If you feel led by God to go in this direction, then by all means, go.....God did not mean for every human being to be the same. We are all a part of a body. He has different purposes for us all. One may be great in mission work. While the other is great with financing the mission work....get my drift.

Ahem....
Speaking as an Accountant, it is a good and broad profession. :) I have worked as an Accountant for a non-profit catholic hospital and let me tell you - it was the perfect mix of mission and ministry for me. You can do both. Remember, lots of mission driven organizations and companies need accountants too. ;)

But anyway…You need to do whatever God lays upon your heart. Because there is nothing worse than being outside of His Will for your life.

I'll be praying for you. :prayer:

Exactly! You do whatever you do ethically and with kindness as Jesus would do it. You can do a Godly job of being a bouncer at a bar if your heart is in the right place...

Hiya, well for me all my directions are found when I am closest to Jesus. When my heart burns with longing for Him and when I ache for Him as I do for a spouse at times, I then find my self longing for the things He wants me to have and the DIRECTION that He wants me to go. When my deepest desire is to only do what He wants He able to guide me. First I Pray for Help then I use common sense about what I am asking Him about, Then I look at circumstances around and see if they point in the same direction as my desire, then I look at word of God, then I also see how I feel about it, do i have peace in my conscience, and then I make a move CONFIDENT that if I have made a wrong choice, that because I sincerley sort His will He will work it out for good.

Bless you John

My dream is to train youth leaders both here in the US and overseas, yet I believe that our purpose should be to live ever moment for Him. Our purpose is to live for Him. Sometimes we get so set on a specific life goal that we miss the oppurtunities that pass us by each day. This is something that God has come to help me realize over the past few months.
