Open source.
The question then, is why it wasn't followed up on.
Many of these politically charged / charging cases have their "building 7".

Why does that shock you?

"it's on the interwebs, therefor it must be true".

Here's a website saying that Belgium doesn't actually exist and that it is a wasteland and that Belgians are really all being held captive in matrix styled pods beneath DisneyLand Paris!

We should send Edgar Maddison Welch to get to the bottom of this once he gets out of prison for his personal investigation of Pizzagate.

While I detest this guy for killing and injuring all those people, I detest the US sentencing laws more. All those mandatory minimums and sentences that span several centuries (plus life) are ridiculous, senseless and inhumane.

This isn't some monster that killed dozens of people, that raped or tortured its way through several states. He did a horrible thing and deserves to be punished for it, but this is nothing but vindictive. People can change, they can be rehabilitated and become members of society.

You say this and yet your own country allowed people with very questionable pasts to lead the brand new Bundeswehr especially the new Luftwaffe in the 1950s and 1960s.

Recently the German Government has been charging low ranking clerks and janitors, people that weren’t even looked at for 50+ years, are now being tried for being an accomplice to genocide.

You said something about being vindictive?

I don’t think you do, you want all humans dead for the good of the planet, but you’re county does, just like my country does. BTW, it was the jury that reached that decision, the judge has not signed off on it yet.

So you don't think his defence team would have explored this?
Well, apparently they didn't. I guess it wasn't part of their evidence.
Or maybe it was 'decided' from higher up.
Many cases have their 'building 7' which is not addressed.
What EXACT evidence do you believe was not dealt with in the courts?
Well i meant it in general, regarding many politically charged / charging cases.
I don't investigate all of them.
At a certain point you get the suspicion that many cases are rigged for 'higher' purpose.
I'm not even sure if it's sloppiness or blatancy of the behind the scenes perps.
It sometimes seems it's a part of their 'religion' to give themselves away a little.
Has to do with karma, i think.
But that's speculation.
Are you implying a "seems unlikely" label as a reasonable excuse for defence in a court case?
No, it just seems unlikely. :)

Hes not going to cut it down to something less than several lifetimes, I bet.

Or maybe they were smart enough to realize that they were wacky conspiracy theories with zero basis in fact. I mean, if we're going to list the possibilities might as well include the most likely one.

The leaving the scene of an accident charge seems to contradict the other charges, but I guess it doesn't matter now.
Maybe they could tack on 9 years for every crime that someone comitted and then didnt wait around for the police to arrest them.

You know, a "making cops work for their money" flat.

He gets to live. His victim doesn't. No one forced him to run anyone over with his car, or drive his car into a crowd of people. I don't think this is a bad case of a life sentence.

Let him change if he want's to change, this society has little use for him.

That's good, but how about also a separate crime for failing to alert the police that you were going to commit a crime before you commit it? Then we could have three crimes for every one crime. ;)

The spirit of that law is that he preformed a hit and run, which he did.
By definition, first degree murder, and malicious wounding, cannot be "accidents".

Sounds great. And I think there is something like a mandatory minimum of life without parole for the third crime?

"A jury in Charlottesville said Tuesday that James Alex Fields Jr. should be sentenced to life plus 419 years in prison and $480,000 in fines, for killing Heather Heyer and seriously injuring 35 others.

Judge Richard Moore will decide whether to sign off on the recommended sentence at a hearing on March 29..."

The judge could reduce the sentence, but can't increase it. I suspect he'll follow the jury's recommendation. Fields could still be tried in federal court for federal hate crimes. Which could carry a death sentence. But I don't think that's necessary. The state jury sent a pretty clear message.

Sure, but that would be the letter rather than the spirit of that particular law.

They probably didn't bother to codify a separate law for fleeing the scene of a vehicular murder.

No. The word "accident" has an actual definition, and I'm sure the law was not intended to try and make murderers remain at the scene of their murder.

Yes, because that would be almost as absurd as making schools "gun free zones" in order to prevent gun murders. Oh wait...they actually did that. :sigh:

Leaving the scene when you've hit someone with a vehicle is illegal weather you meant to hit that person or not.

Generally when people hit and run it is because they intend to evade consequences.

The idea that it would be legal to leave the scene after a murder with a vehicle and not legal to leave after an accident is ludicrous.

Here's a cite to the Virginia law about leaving the scene of an accident. You need to provide me with the cite showing it's illegal to leave the scene of a murder. Or a rape. Or an arson. Or a jaywalking. Or any other intentional act.
