Today God showed me that life is too short to ignore what is important.  Many years ago my grandfather hurt me deeply.  Today we cried and said 'I love you.'

Life is too short too ...

Life is too short to be bitter.
Life is too short to hold a grudge.
Life is too short to be at war.

Many years ago you hurt me.
Many years ago you made me feel small.
Many years ago you scorned me.

Many years ago He hurt for me.
Many years ago He was made small for me.
Many years ago He was scorned for me.
Many years ago He died for me.

Now He heals our hurts.
Now He shows how important we are.
Now He draws us close together.

Soon there will be no more pain.
Soon there will be no more strife.
Soon there will be no more tears.
Soon we will be with You!

Life is too short not to forgive each other.
Life is too short not to share Your love.
Life is too short not to show that you matter.
Life is too short not to say 'I love you.'

Father God, please help us not to lose sight of what is important in life.  You have placed us here for a short time to do Your will.  Give us the strength, wisdom, humility and love to spread Your love and hope.  Father, never let us lose sight of eternity.

I love You with all my heart,
Your little child.

A lifetime ago, when I was a very small boy, my Mom and Dad took me for a ride on a cold winter's night to go "window shopping" It was a very different world, back then. But at Christmas time the stores all put in special displays with the Christmas theme, and as a big eyed little boy, I would thrill as I watched a life sized Santa, standing there waving and saying "Ho Ho Ho". And then there was the miniture city in another window where the train buzzed around the city and all the little figures were in constant motion, walking, dancing, singing, etc.

These were the days before Malls, and we walked down the sidewalk and peered into the windows from the street, and it was always very very cold, and I was dressed in heavy coat, gloves and earmuffs. The memory is so fresh, I can still "feel" the bite of the cold wind and the taste of the damp night.

Dad holding, one hand, and Mom holding the other, we strolled gleefully until I was too tired to walk, and then we went home, making one more stop for an ice cream cone, which was the perfect finish to a most Heavenly night.

Only yesterday, it seems. I can still "feel" it. But Dad died in 1985 and Mom died a month ago tomorrow. Yes, life is not only too short, but it goes by too quickly.

Today you read this, and "Just like that", tomorrow will be 30 years ago!

I cannot stress the importance of healing relationships either.

i agree, what can you achieve by keeping a broken relationship? we can live our lives with much happiness if we could only let things go....

Thank-you Gerry for another look at how quickly life goes by. I am sorry for your loss. Isn't our memory an amazing creation? My God helps us to hold on to the good memories and let go of the bad ones. Remember the times that showed love and not to remember the times that rob us of love, not only then but now by holding on to that memory.

Thank Christ Jesus for His blood and forgiveness. If He can forgive all our sins and present us holy before His Father, I think we should be able to forgive others of hurt they have done to us. What they have done to us, is nothing like our sin to God.
