  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Life wears me out, its like everyday day and night its a battle. Everyone's seems to sneer at you being a Christian and takes delight in proving you wrong. They laugh because what you believe in can't be backed by science, they say you support in a moralistic monster made from the figment of the imagination aka, the flying spaghetti monster.

Its like fighting in the ring, when you want to catch your breath you can't, not until the round is over. Your opponent is so much bigger, faster, stronger and more knowledgeable than you. They want to knock you out intellectually, they know your weaknesses and they mock them. It seems God is in the corner watching the match. The spectators are tallying points, everyone knows you're the underdog and no one is betting on you to win. You plead with God as the blows keep coming "Throw the towel in, please before my opponent sends me to the mat".

This is how I feel when I debate with others on theology and apologetics. Why does it seem that everyday I'm preparing for war? I don't want to fight but time and time again I find myself with little choice. It tires me out, its exhausting.

Can anyone else relate with this?

Rely on the Lord and when the time is right He will give you the right words to say, if in fact you need to say anything at all. Remember that Jesus went through what you describe and even worse and never said a thing. In so doing His mockers even mocked that He had no response for them. Some people do not deserve a response and when one is given it is merely ammunition for them. So I think that is why Jesus told us:

“Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you.

Though it is difficult a discernment must be made each day in each situation. May the Lord lead you into His truth and His understanding.

I feel the opposite, there is nothing I love more then a good debate. In the middle of one I can feel the slight rush of sdrenaline through my veins as I prepare my next retort. Every time I get into a discussion, I come otu learning something about the topic, about myself , and about the other person. There is nothing like it.

Just make sure you know what your talking about before you go into a discussion about the topic. I've done it before and it's pretty embarrising, not to mention impossible to win.

Who exactly are you hanging out with all day long??? I'm not saying to leave them behind, but perhaps you should broaden your circle of friends and acquaintances so that you are not at odds with everyone in your life, as you make it sound.

I love a good argument, but I also enjoy support and understanding. Balance is the key.

I make it a point to not discuss such things with people that will not be respectful to begin with. Even around CF. One of my first postings here was attacked by someone who was on their theological high horse and I made the decision right then to keep certain things close to the vest at least at first.

If you feel you are being beat up, don't fight!

There are plenty of others out there that are good at "fighting" the theological battles. Not everyone is called to do it. Just live your life in a Christlike manner and be a light to the world. Be that witness.

I know what you mean. When I first came to CF, and with life in general, I felt I needed to defend what I believed at all costs. And there are times God thrusts you into those situations where you need to do just that, for His own reasons. It was through being pulled by God to this place that I was able to hear the truth and finally reject the unBiblical beliefs I was clinging desperately to. Since then, though, I have not felt the need to debate to the extent I did. Occasionally I get drawn into the debate, but when it gets down to them mocking me rather than debating the subject, I walk away. It's not worth my time. I do not feel the need to defend myself or my beliefs in that way. And when they are left with the last word, and it doesn't reflect well on them, then it shows what their intent really is. Nobody likes a bully.

Don't forget this verse Mat 7:6
Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

And don't forget to take you Stress tabs..

My views are unorthodox and so I may get jumped on by anyone.. :)

It may be difficult, but sometimes you need to walk away and leave the situation to God. That's what my wife did with me. She became saved and tried to save me and nothing work. When she turned my salvation over to God, I became saved. It took a year, but you have to have faith. Prayer works. We've been married 31 years now, and counting.
