I life with my older brother and several close friends but I'm the only one who understands the necessity to prepare for absolute disaster or any other myriad of highly plausible natural occurrences. I also understand that God wants people to try and be more self-sustaining but unfortunately I'm also the only person in my household who believes in God. Also, as a self-conscious, not to mention Christian, Female, well almost, I'm not too comfortable living in the same house as males outside of my family. I'm also severely disabled and unable to actively prepare for such a situation but I want to begin to set up my own shelter in event of disaster. But, I'm unfortunately also nearly broke after all my expenses. Does anyone have any recommendations on how I could start prepping for disaster on a low budget and how I might find people whom I can trust to build the shelter as I'm unable to do so on my own?

Just a common sense observation... you will not be able to do this yourself. I am not disabled and could not go this alone. First find a church that is sympathetic to your desires. Maybe not the church itself.. but members who are preppers. So your "preps" will not be dependent upon you and you roommates. What do you think?

I think @Didaskalos is on the right track. If you are not comfortable in your current living situation and are unable to convince your brother that he should prepare for emergencies, you may want to make some changes in your living and networking situations.

Absent that, you may have to take Paul's position in Philippians 4:11.

In your condition, do all that you can do, even without help. If you shop, buy an extra can of this or that, an extra bag of dry beans or peas. These things will add up over time. And rotate your stock as time goes on. BUT, most importantly, put your trust in GOD IN ALL THINGS LARGE AND SMALL. Jesus told His disciples not to worry about their food or clothing, for He provides for the sparrow, both food and cloths. So He will also provide for you.

Maria, you may also take advantage of the hearts of Christian(s) who prep. I know we and other preppers have it in our plan to help at least one other person. By that I mean we are putting back for for one other person that God may send our way. We have always thought it may be a widow or orphaned child. But it could just as easily be someone such as yourself who needs care. Additionally we are putting back hundreds of pounds of dent corn for the purpose of feeding that hungry family who comes to our door. That may only last so long... but we have to try, and believe God will bless our efforts.
Trust the Lord... He will make a way. He sees your situation. He knows you. Jesus is Lord of all. Nothing is impossible for God. He displayed His love and concern for you by giving His life by a terrible death... providing for you during any difficult time is nothing for Him. He is the Great Provider.

I appreciate your kind words, understanding of my situation and sound advice you have provided to me. I shall look into all of these endeavors. However, I've done some thinking and I've noticed my stockpile of medical supplies and equipment that I've got in my bedroom and, surely, medical supplies would be easily tradable and highly valuable if everything as we know it were to end. So, in a way, I'm sort of inadvertently prepared for such an event. I may not have a lot of food stored up but I have something of equal value. Thanks for your guidance as to how I might go about prepping.
