• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Daryl-
It seems I have been on just about every anti-anxiety/Depression med out there. Doctors seem to "tweek" meds until you and he/she are comfortable with the outcome. Many of the ones I have been on gave me undesirable side effects. Be sure to have clear communication between each other.

I have taken zoloft for a few weeks, my doc is thinking of switching me to lexapro.

Is lexapro better, does it have lesss side effects ?
Any experiences with lexapro ?

Daryl
Healthsquare.com said this about the possible side effects of lexapro
"More common side effects may include:
Constipation, decreased appetite, decreased sex drive, diarrhea, dizziness, dry mouth, [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] disorder, fatigue, flu-like symptoms, headache, impotence, indigestion, insomnia, nausea, runny nose, sinusitis, sleepiness, sweating"

I have been on Lexapro myself since last March and had good results with it. I haven't seen any bad side effects. You have to taper down if you go off of it though or you can get terrible headaches.
I tried Zoloft before also and had some weight gain with it.

From reading other peoples reaction to lexapro, and the official sites, it sounds like lexapro has similiar start up effects as zoloft, so for know I'm going to try and give the zoloft a fair chance, it's been only a little over two weeks so hopefully week 3 and four will get better. unless my doc really thinks I should switch, and I will discuss that with her.

Did you go off zoloft soley because of weight gain?
Have you found lexapro to be a better drug for depression?

I have also been on most anxiety/depression meds (except lexapro). I do communicate honestly with my doc and she is working with me to find the best med and dosage. I understand the drugs have side effects, and just trying to get through the start up phase with zoloft, are you currently taking any meds?

Zoloft's web site says that it may take up to 8 weeks for you to see improvement on Zoloft. Should probably give it a little more time. If your on the 25mg then maybe need to increase after that.

I think for me the lexapro has worked better. I went off the Zoloft years ago because I didn't want to be dependent on a drug and wanted to try living without it. The weight gain wasn't that big of an issue for me.
