Hello,

In Leviticus 6:4 it says, "be, when he sins and becomes guilty, that he shall restore what he took by robbery or what he got by extortion, or the deposit which was entrusted to him or the lost thing which he found".

What does bold mean above? I've read the context and still don't understand.

Thank you

"Look after my wallet while I go for a swim will you?" "Sure." "Thanks"

Except he does not look after the wallet, he forgets about it and the money in it gets stolen. He is then responsible for making good the loss.

It does appear to be something like a deposit, something that was given to the offender, to be held in reserve as some sort of guarantee, but was not his/hers to keep forever.

It's what we would call today a pawn, as in pawn shop. Someone leaves something valuable in exchange for a loan. If the person holding it did not return it when the loan was paid it was considered fraud.

it's about making restitution for the sin committed in regard to robbery/extortion.

broke a trust through robbery or extortion .... that violation needs to be remedied (restored)
