  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Where the Isrealites Christians or not? Who was the first Christian?
The Israelites were a people from the 12 tribes of Jacob who was named Israel by God. The Jews today are generally from the tribe of Judah. The first believers of Jesus were Jews. Antioch claims the first followers who were called Christians.

Laura, read Genesis and Exodus for the history of the people God grafted us into. And try an easier version than the KJV - maybe like the NKJV! :D Reading those two books gave me a real appreciation for the fact that my sin was no different than the Patriarchs' sin. They needed a savior and I needed one also!

God says He hates divorce!

The KJV is the only version that should be used. Have you heard how the KJV is on a 5th grade level? No one that young is even allowed on here so you should be able to understand the KJV.
Not to me, except for the Psalms. I can't memorize the Psalms in anything but the KJV. I see that the KJV is now rated 12th grade. Even though I loved Shakespeare, I find the archaic language disconcerting. Also, some of the newer translations are from older manuscripts and are slightly different with additions and omissions. All that to say this - get a Bible you will read!

If the believers in Antioch were Jews then they were the first to be called Christians, but I believe that they were pagan Greeks. Jews in Jerusalem were the first believers and were considered for a while a Jewish sect. But then Paul and the Sanhedrin started persecuting them and they scattered. But they were not called Christians - they were called The Way. So I don't know how to answer your question. :)

I was discussing slavery in the Old Testament with HipieforChrist. God dosn't want us to have slaves he told the Isrelites to make a heathen nation their slaves. And in the new Testament he tells people to treat their slaves good.

I'm not sure what scripture your speaking of. The only place I find the word "slave" in the bible is in Revelation.

In Lev. they were called "bondservants". And Israel held a tradition on each jubile (50th yr) which set them all free. Tho some did not want to leave their masters, because they treated them so well (loved them).

Lev. 25:10 And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubile unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family.

I had to go check something else on the computer and was afraid of losing what I had already typed.
25:44-46 God tells the Isrealites to make a heathen nation their slaves. Does that mean that having slaves is alright or God approves or encourages it.

I thought that Messianics were not Christians. Never mind now. That sounds like a celebration not freeing of slaves. In Leviticus cont' in next

Well I'm not Messianic either. I'm an Eastern Orthodox Christian.:)

It was a celebration. Not only did they free all bondservants, but everyones debts were considered paid.

I believe you have some modern idea about some particular form of slavery. Israel was very good to their bondservants, so much so, that some didn't want to leave.
