Are they too high, too much, not enough, paying for the wrong things, not paying for enough things, hard to pay, too steep..... and the list goes on.

Formerly a tax collector myself, I think this:

We don't PAY taxes as far as income, SS, etc. They are TAKEN before we even get out checks.

Property taxes? Isn't this paying rent for the land you already own? Strange.....

What do you think?

Property taxes go back to when wealth was primarily in land. Since wealth is no longer primarily tied to land, other methods of taxation should be considered.

I have no objection to taxes in principle. Fairly assessed and effectively distributed they promote the general welfare. Money raised should be more directly tied to where it will go for two reasons. It will prevent the misapropiation of funds and allow taxpayers to better evaluate whether their money is being used effectively.

I would just like to say that I think it is very cool that I dont pay State Tax living in Nevada.  :p

Yes taxes suck my behind! But just think taxes COULD be worse and more like in Britain and you would have to "pay them to the Queen".  I heard they get taxed a whole lot more.

Nevada does have a sales tax and various other taxes like for fuel and tires, but it must be nice having a good deal of your state income coming from outsiders visiting those casinos.

yeah which is why we dont have to pay actual State Tax......Cause we mooch off of people who think "I'm going to hit it big this time."  It really is funny and sad at the same time...especially when you see like old people sitting at the machines with their oxygen tanks right next to them. :(

I always remember that great quote from I think John Adams or whoever "Dont ask what the country will give back to you, but what u will give to the country." And then I can ask many Americans, how many of them feel they are getting back what they work for in their jobs ?? Its sad cuz seeing your whole paycheck value minus the taxes is like a big taunt. Im still waiting for a president to actually do something about the taxes in a dramatic way, but doubt it :(

Hi arab4christ,

Are you talking about John F. Kennedy's quote,

"Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country"?  (I think that's exactly it...)

As far as taxes are concerned, are you talking about a permanant tax cut?  That's what President Bush is proposing ~ a permanant tax cut to put the $$ back in the back pockets of the consumers to help increase the economy.

Personally, I think the amount of the taxes are ridiculous.  But, until things change, I'll "render unto Caesar" what is his :)

I think that it is total blackmail, to annually take money from people for property they already own.

Then if you want to make expansions or improvements to that property (which you own) they have the right to charge you a fee to apply for a license to do so.  Plus, they can tell you 'no' if it suits them.

Taxes are out of control, across the board.

Amen.  But it's still too much.

I happen to agree with you, but I heard something interesting on the radio this morning;

This is a huge country.  Things can't change as fast as we may want them to.  It has taken many, many years for it to get to where it is today, and it's going to take just as long for it to change.  If permanent tax cuts are to happen, it's going to take a little bit for it to happen to the extent that we may like it...... change is slow here.......a lot of opposition.....

I'd love to see the property tax cut here where I live (Seattle, WA), because it's so ridiculous.  As well as other types of taxes....but oh well, one step at a time ;)

Yes thank you that is what I was talking about ( I believe )...But as for the tax cuts I dont think so. In my opinion, even if this helps the economy and U.S.'s debt somehow, some other business or section will be missing money. I think it will be the way it has been for sometime now and not change...And following the law is all you can do   :)

God bless

I think what's even worse than them taking the money is the fact that they can kick you out of your house AND off of your land if you don't pay up.

In the State of Michigan, you can only be behind for a year and a half, and then you're done. They take your house and auction it off for pennies! NOT COOL.

But I agree with the fact that they make you have licenses to build, dig, or do ANYTHING to your property. Hello! This IS America. Where I live, you can't have a doublewide older than five years, and no single wides are allowed to be put on property, because they make the "property value go down."

Gag me please.

i believe we should be able to decide and vote on exactly where all our tax money should go. it's quite evident that the government is immensely irresponsible when it comes to spending and i know my hard earned money is going to things i do not wish to support. but i can't do anything about it. they take and do as they wish.

How do you define "ownership"? You "own" what you think you own because your ancestors militarily evicted the last owners. You continue to "own" what you think you own because the government that evicted the last owners says you still own it. Or is there a higher principle that gives you a mystical right to inhabit the land you currently inhabit?
