My cousin Brittany has just announced this week that she's signed up for the army. I have had around half a dozen more relatives that have gone to the middle east since 9/11, and I myself was over there for a short time.

There's a lot of crazy things in this world and I don't really kno what to say to my cousin but to encourage her. But of course we're all worried for her.

I feel bad sometimes because I got out of the military but I still know a lot of good men and women that are stuck in the sandbox, and it *sucks* over there. I worry about all the people I knew back then. It's a completely different world over there, and nothing I can say can describe it.

So I try not to worry, but I caught myself watching a few Youtube videos, and so I decided to post a couple of them as I watch, videos about the military and all. Some of these take a while to load, but they're all pretty good. My cousin's had as rough a life as any of us grandchildren, and this is the only way she'll ever get out of the mess of a life her parents made for her. I ask that you please pray for my her. She's not even 18 yet and she doesn't really have her life together.

Army tanks. But I'm more of an aircraft man myself.

A lot of the kids that join the military really have no where else to go. I know I didn't. I never really had anything to believe in, and no one to believe in me. But the military is a family, and I would lay down my life and die for any one of those brave soldiers. And I know they would do the same for me, or for you.

This next one really just takes my breath away, lol..of the B2 stealth bomber. I got to work on the engines for about 5 seconds one year.

The first time I saw the Stealth, i thought it was a raven. It was absolutely quiet, and the most graceful thing I've ever seen in the sky. To see it is unreal.

The company that produces these aircraft...their motto is, "We Own the Night".

I know they're not "my" troops, as such, but I hope that all of your family members come home safe and sound.

I've heard that military life can be a great help for some people who are in your cousin's position, so I hope she's able to find her place in life and get some peace.

I like the Military Channel. They're showing off (some) of the stuff our soldiers are using in the field, and bringing back stories from the troops as well. Like the piece on body armor, for one. A medic was shot by an inexperienced sniper, his body armor stopped it, his squad fired back and apprehended the insurgent, and the medic treated the wound of the man who tried to kill him without any hesitation.

I love it. One of my friends was medical, she told all kinds of stories about helping people who'd shot at us. (Not just us, at that time there were a lot of British troops in her area too!)

BTW, I heard the british get *beer* in their MRE's, anyone know if this is true? I know a lot of people who'd want to change enlistments...

Like the one where my uncle was buying supplies for his unit, including feminine products for the female soldiers? He kept getting asked how many wives he has, since he had to buy everything wholesale.

Ugh..when we were briefed for living in camp, the Sgts had to tell the females to throw away their "sanitary napkins" in *only* the designated areas, or else animals would get into the trash to eat them.

Coolest thing happened to me the other day... I was driving along I-90 over the pass from Seattle to Ellensburg (central Washington) and heard this loud thumping over the traffic and radio. I was in pure awe of the scenery with a lake off to the side and tall, gorgeous mountain tops all around. As I was looking for where this sound was coming from, I noticed a rather large formation of UH-60 Blackhawks! Between the passing trees I counted 6 of them, but when I came around another corner I saw there were an additional 6! All at just a few hundred feet above the trees. It was the coolest thing EVER! You have no idea how bad I wish I could have pulled over to get pictures. Would have been breathtaking with those gorgeous mountains and lakes in the background.


I always wanted to be a Naval Aviator, but other circumstances prevailed and that ship has sailed, so to speak. But now I enjoy being able to photograph them and try to show my support that way.

We once had a navy guy come and talk to our class. He was saying that one of the reasons that women weren't allowed in subs was because there was nowhere to efficiently dispose of feminine products and that they would just be stowed away on this ship causing a potential contamination point. However, that was a few years before they came up with that pill that makes it so you only get your "visitor" four times a year. I wonder if that made a difference?

I have a friend that I graduated with just last year who is getting deployed to Iraq with an artillary (sp?) unit in...I think it's November. He's the first person I know who has become actively involved in this war, but it's kind of scary. My soon-to-be-step-cousin-in-law (yeah, definitely a confusing future relative) just got back from Iraq too. It's kind of crazy. It will be so weird when our kids are reading about some of this stuff in the history books...

You can create a postcard online and xerox (or someone) sends them out to the troops. It's actually pretty neat...

I don't understand how is possible to be so strict about the chastity thing and still, totally ignore Jesus's message of peace. That was a way bigger deal...

You must do what you feel is right. I understand, tho I feel you owe a debt to your own country by supporting it.
