  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I used to hate post-punk, first because I hated the '80s, next because I thought it spoiled real punk, and finally because I thought the recordings sounded terrible. I've been cured of all three for awhile, though, and I enjoy bands like The Fall, The Homosexuals, and Killing Joke. What about you guys? Any favorites?

The Clash and the Mac Lads are Post punk? I can see how the Clash strayed from a lot of stereotype associed with punk rock, and they remain my favorite band of all time, but I do say that I do not feel as if they are post punk...

But I do say that I have not paid that much attention to Post Punk. In the last 8 years I have not managed to get past punk rock.

I am currently stuck on Oi! music and the foreign punk rock, and a little bit of that ska punk (I really think that even though it is the terrible offspawn, and much of the music in this genre is terrible, that bands like Persiana Jones are absolutely fabulous).

I do not see why one would want to move beyond it, and move into something sounding so different.

But I will give it a chance.

I request that someone contact me and exchange with me their best MP3s of Post Punk music, because I do not want to blindly download. I cold get a bad impression if I listened to certain bands or certain songs at random and then tried to make up my mind.

I would like to exchange some MP3s for Post Punk MP3s, and give this all a try.

In return, I will give any amount of RAC or Oi or foreign punk/ska, or dancehall music (that is what I have a lot of), or possibly House music or Drum & Bass if you really wanted to.

Send me a PM if you want to introduce me to Post Punk. Please do. I am curious, now.

Actually, when it came to Post-Punk, if I can remember correctly, most of the bands popped up on their own, and weren't originally in Punk bands (there are exceptions, of course, like John Lydon). It was inspired by the Do-It-Yourself ethic, and played around with a lot of the concepts introduced in Punk, but it's pretty much a seperate genre. It seems as though American Post-Punk was intellectual, and British was pretty gloomy and introverted.

I might take you up on your offer, though. I just have to get those songs back on my computer. Also, a few of them are in .mp4, not .mp3.

I would be delighted -- hit me up with the best that the genre has to offer because I am infinitely curious in new genres of music.

also, I I have much to exchange and I enjoy sharing new music.

post-punk? what a term. i guess punk really did die didn't it? haha. sorry bad joke i know ;)

in the end tho, until i find some bands that are "post-punk" i can't say i'm into it. it isn't metal enough for me, and it isn't acoustic/solo artist for me (hence my two favorite styles of music.)
