Hey,

I was wondering whether anyone from this forum has tried being part of the debating forum, It seemed interesting concept.

It would be very interesting...and workable. But I've noticed with the other debating forums in CF is that it's a long debate...
I'm not sure whether I can put that much time into writing just one post.

However for short debates such as "UHT milk is better than Soy" that would be interesting...

Yeah, I wonder if they would let us start a unoffical little debate as a thread in the Australian forum?

I'm quite sure we can...with good reasoning.

I would really like to see "The Opposite Debating arena"....where flaming is included but not intended...lol

I think we're ahead of every other forum....

but I would have thought debating forums were invented because people were arguing too much...do you think we need to start arguing violently to make them pull up a debating forum? We'll make that plan B for now.

Plan A-> Ask nicely....

Yeah exactly, I wasn't thinking of a violent debate, a nice good natured debate about an issue is nice though, everyone gets to appreciate each others view on an issue. we sort of do that here anyhows.

I think overseas people can come in, only if they're nice and at least 3 well known aussies approve it

Yeah I agree with that idea, that way it reduces complications

And the aussies must know each other, that way, we don't have overseas guys posting as aussies, and make three up just to get into the debate

Unfortunately, I don't think debate would work Jim. Other countries would barge in and then there would be infighting. They'd come in whether allowed or not.

We couldn't have a private thread that only registered aussies could come into, i wonder?

We do have debating threads here, but, I don't think they exclude other nations.
The main problem here is that once we begin a debate on something, it's an open invitation for people to come in and take over. And, the infighting begins.
It would be a great idea for Aussies alone. But, unfortunately, it never works out that way. And, some people can become abusive. It overloads the mods when that happens.

um... i don't see a problem with debating.. but restricting it to aussies only defeats the purpose of CF, as it is an international board for everyone. The americans once wanted a forum for their own politics and that was refused on this basis..
