Comparisons of Programs...Lets SEE if they are different, shall we?
The FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLE behind each:
Judaism = The leading principle of the Gospel of the Kingdom is the LAW OF MOSES. This principle pervaded EVERY aspect of Israel's life. All the teachings of Judaism are a part of it. One of the reasons for the coming of the Lord Jesus is found in Mt. 5:17, "Think not that I am COME to destroy the Law or the prophets. I came not to destroy but to FULFIL" He came to do what no man could ever do...to live in perfect obedience to the LAW.
This means , then, that Matthew, Mark, Luke and John and the early chapters of Acts record history that took place under the law of Moses, and the teachings of Christ contained therein are expressions of that LAW.
It is NOT until the raising up of Paul that another principle is given prominence by God.
Christianity =
The leading principle of the Gospel of the Grace of God is THE GRACE of GOD.This is the principle of Christianity. The revelations given to the Apostle of the Gentiles contain more about the Grace of God than any other part of the Bible. This Age in which we live is aptly called the Dispensation of the Grace of God (Ephesians 3:2). Salvation is by GRACE (Ephesians 2:8,9) I believe that this superabundant grace of God is the answer to why God allows so many things to happen that seem incompatible with Him and His ways (Isaiah 55:11)
Where doe the Christian stand in relation to the leading principles of God? The Bible settles this question once and for all in Romans 6::14,15:
"For sin shall not have dominion over you; for YE ARE NOT UNDER THE LAW BUT UNDER GRACE". What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? God forbid"
And Romans 7:4 states, "Wherefore, my brethren, ye also ARE BECOME DEAD to the LAW by the Body of Christ...."
The LAW of MOSES has been abolished by the Cross of Calvary:
"Having ABOLISHED in His flesh the enmity, even THE LAW OF COMMANDMENTS CONTAINED IN ORDINANCES; for to make in Himself of twain ONE NEW MAN, so making peace; and that He might reconcile both unto God in ONE BODY by the Cross, having SLAIN THE ENMITY thereby...Eph. 2:15,16
"BLOTTING OUT THE HANDWRITING OF ORDINANCES that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it OUT OF THE WAY, nailing it to His Cross." Col. 2:14 also 2 Cor 3:7-11
The actual act of nailing the Law to the Cross was when Christ died on the Cross, but the POWER of the law was not rescinded until Israel was set aside in acts 28. Acts 21:20 PROVES THIS TO BE TRUE.
Believers NOW are told that Christian living is by the GRACE of God; "For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to ALL men, TEACHING US that , denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, WE SHOULD LIVE soberly, righteously, and godly IN THIS PRESENT WORLD...these things speak and esxhort and rebuke with all AUTHORITY. Let no man despise thee." Titus 2:11-15
The authority of God for today is invested in the Pauline Epistles. These epistles teach that the grace of God is to pervade ALL aspects of Christian living. There is no other Divine principle that can please God more than living in obedience to Him.
We will look NEXT at how Judaism and Christianity differ in their presentation of the Lord Jesus Christ.
