:) Hi! Good question..
I've quite recently returned to God I guess. A lot of my friends are in a very different place in their lives and I can't really discuss things with them, I wanted to be able to talk to other people, maybe with more knowledge and insight than me. I've also started attending my church again which I'm feeling really positive about. I've signed up to a few Christian forums but I like this one the best so far.
I guess I just feel compelled to learn more about God, I have no idea why. Sometimes I feel stupid for not having a reason but I just feel like I'm meant to do this.

Thank you for answering in detail :) It is a good reason to get to know God! I guess, the God Himself calls you to do this. And if it's Him, then no other thing can be more important.
Well, it would be in the very nick of time to offer you my help when it's needed :) Feel free to write anything and anytime :)

Can I share a secret with you? A secret concerning an effective way of learning about God? The point is to read the Word carefully and with prayer so that God would reveal His wisdom to you. Well, maybe you know that already :)

Is there anything I can do for you? Prayers? Bible answers?

Emmyan - I've struggled with depression and unfortunately self harm as well, I'm worried that God will hate me, I know he won't, but it still scares me that he'll hate me for doing that to myself, if that makes sense? Maybe I could use a prayer to help me understand better, how God wants me to go about repenting for that? Im not sure.

Rebecca Sue - It was actually a conversation with a friend about atheism. For many years I'd insisted I was an atheist without actually considering what it meant and what I really believed in. My friend seriously made me question my beliefs and for the first time in a long time I prayed and after that I felt really drawn to God, I wanted to go to my local church again and read about God and the Bible and pray. I still haven't made sense of exactly why I feel this way.

What does repentance actually mean? I do not mean the actual meaning of the greek word but what the Bible says. And the Bible says this:

"...return ye now every one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good" (Jeremiah 18:11, KJV)

How does God see this deed in action?

"The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it." (Isaiah 40:3-5, KJV)

The same things John the Baptist said while preaching (Luke 3:4-6). And then he added: "
Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance" (Luke 3:8).
So we see here that repentance is "turning from one's evil ways", "making one's ways and doings good (in the sight of the Lord)", "exalting every valley", "making low every mountain" which means "making the crooked straight and the rough places plain". This is how God sees the repentance.

But it's not just saying "Lord forgive me!". It's about "bringing forth fruits worthy of repentance". Jesus says:

"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven" (Matt.7:21, KJV)

But how to do this? I mean bringing fruits. The same question people would ask John the Baptist when they heard such teaching:

"
And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then?
He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise.
Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said unto him, Master, what shall we do? And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you.
And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages." (Luke 3:10-14, KJV)

He gave a real example. So that's it :)

To summarize, I wanna say that the covenant is a two-sided agreement. If a man does his part of this agreement, then God will certainly do His (see Deuteronomy 28 as an example).

I hope my explanation was clear and Biblical enough :)

P.S. All you have to do is fully repent of your all sins and sin no more, doing what God wants. Sin is the most awful doing in the sight of God...
And of couse you can count on my prayers for you :prayer:

Jesus bless you!

It really does. I find myself thinking about God a lot throughout the day. Life throws up a lot of challenges, it makes things a lot better to have God to talk to. I'm finding myself being able to stop, think and talk calmly if I'm feeling annoyed or something. That's a huge step for me.
