  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Continuing the tradition of other OBOB threads, let us pray for those who ask for prayer:

CarolineBlue, who seems very sad and depressed.

Shelb5, whom we miss.

Steph, who'll be away for a while.

fairieeva and her mother who are on a pilgrimage in Rome.

All Members of OBOB, that they have a new year filled with Divine blessings.

I was very struck by how frail and very old John Paul is. This is a man who surely loves Jesus and proves it and has proved it so many times that it is without dispute. I was very struck that this very frail and sickly saint of G-d would still proclaim the gospel. That I would have that much grace one day.

Having said that I would like my protestant brethern to join me in a week of prayer of blessing for him. I have started tonight even on my Netcast program. Lay aside your denomonation for a moment and pray a blessing on this wonderful man of G-d who I am sure if not indivdually that corporately has prayed for you many times.

Thanks, Pastor George.

Let's pray for Pope John Paul, our Chief Shepherd!

And for LadyDJ who is recovering from surgery.

And for all our unstated intentions.

my dad says thank you for your prayers. his leg is a bit better. His spirits are pretty high..he even told me a corny joke that was so bad it was funny....How many Pentecostals does it take to change a lightbulb? three...one to change it and two to catch it when it falls LOL I didnt have the heart to tell him I heard it before.

Let's continue to pray for Pastor Sherm's father, his leg and his diabetes situation.

Near the end of this month I have been asked by my Confessor to attend a dinner on priestly vocations. I need prayer because my parent's hearts have been getting softer to this, and now I need to actually do something that takes a step toward discovering my vocation in life.

Also, prayers to God through our Lady for my continued growth in holiness are always appreciated, and I hope our Lord will bless you all a thousand fold for any small prayer you may offer in love on my behalf.

for the intentions of Irenaeus

my best friend's cousin died Friday. He was on his 4-wheeler and he hydroplaned (sp?) and hit a tree...he died on impact. He was only 19 or 20 years old, I hadnt really talked to him in almost a year or so, but it still hurts when someone you know dies. The family is taking it pretty hard, especially his younger sister, she's 15, Greg took care of her and watched out for her, and now he's gone. please pray that this family is comforted during this tough time.

Hey Michelina -

Side note.

I have been actually listening periodically to the Ambrosian Rite chants, and the "Te Deum Laudamus" is on it, with slightly different words. I absolutely adore it. It goes like this, as far as memory serves me..

Te laudamus Domine omnipotens,
qui sedes super cherubim et seraphim.
Quem benedic unt angeli et archangeli:
et laudant prophetae et apostoli.

Te laudamus Domine, orando,
qui venisti peccata solvendo.
Te deprecamur magnum Redemptorem,
quem Pater misit ovium pastorem.

Tu es Christus Dominus salvator,
qui de Maria virgine es natus.
Hunc sacrosanctum calicem sumentes,
ab omni culpa libera nos semper.

Isn't that BEAUTIFUL?

The Ambrosian Rite has also one of the most touching fraternal hymns I have ever read...it far surpasses "they will know we are Christians by our love."

Nunc, Frater (responsorium cum infantibus)

Nunc, frater, quo progrediar, quove convertar?

Bos bovem requirit, et frequenti mugitu pium testatur affectum;
R. Et ego non requiram te, frater, cum quo vitae huius aratra sustinui,
labore inferior, amore coniunctior.
V. Latus enim meum tuo latere sepiebas: caritate ut frater, cura ut pater.
R. Et ego non requiram te, frater.....

Translation for non-Latin..

Now Brother, where shall I go, or where shall I turn?
Ox seeks ox, and shows his feeling by often lowing:
R. And shall I not seek you, brother, with whom I have worked the fields of this life,
the lesser in toil, the more joined in love.
V. For you guarded my side with your side: In charity as a brother, in care as a father.
R. And shall I not seek you, Brother..?

When I read that, I could hardly breathe. Just magnificent.

Gorgeous!

Popes John, Paul and John Paul have exhorted all members of the Church to keep these treasures alive!
