You know, I was thinking about my screen name. Then I started thinking about dogs. A good dog can be a good example of how to be a good Christian. How, you ask? I shall tell you.
1. Dogs are fiercely loyal and devoted to their master.
2. Dogs love their master.
3. Dogs are never ashamed of their master, or of their master's commands.
4. Dogs don't care what other people think or say about them.
5. Dogs are willing to work for their master.
6. Dogs love to simply spend time with their master.
7. Dogs depend on their master for everything
8. Dogs don't fully understand their master, but they still seek to please.
9. Dogs submit to their master.
10. A good dog reflects well on his master.

Of course, these statements refer to good dogs. There are also bad dogs, and bad Christians. But the next time we see a dog, let's be reminded of some of the things that we could learn from him.

There are several versions of this on the internet, but I love the idea they express!

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride. Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.

When it’s in your best interest, practice obedience.

Let others know when they’ve invaded your territory.

Take naps and stretch before rising.

Run, romp, and play daily.

Thrive on attention and let people touch you.

Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.

On warm days, stop and lie on your back on the grass.

On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.

When you’re happy, dance around and wag your entire body.

No matter how often you’re scolded, don’t buy into the guilt thing and pout, run right back and make friends.

Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

Eat with gusto and enthusiasm. Stop when you have had enough.

Be loyal.

Never pretend to be something you’re not.

If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

And MOST of all: When someone is having a bad day, be silent, and sit close by and nuzzle them gently.

OK, so they're not ALL suitable for building Christian character, but mostly! lol

Blessings, Susana

Here's another way to look at it....some people have the "dog" attitude or "cat" attitude to serving God.

Dogs think this way bout there masters:
You love me, you feed me, you pet me....YOU must be God!

Cats think this way bout there masters:
You love me, you feed me, you pet me...I must be God!

When it comes to obeying God's will for your life, are you a cat or a dog?

Rainbowprism, I didn't want to say anything and alienate the cat lovers, but... Yeah. Anyway, I'm glad you guys liked this!

Lol, I think cat lovers know what their felines are like...very independent and to quote Ferris Beuller "snooty". :D

When I left Roman Seminary I was very lonely and very stressed and God brought a little dog into my life which gave it meaning and happiness. The dog, Oliver, reminded me that God loved me among other things. Animals are a blessing from God.

Chill, oh good, the title "lessons from a dog" made me think you were calling yourself a dog. I love your perspective, thanks for the post! I'm definitely your biggest fan! ;)
I love a dog's humility! I'm envious that they can be so foolish and perform in ways that seem absolute nonsense, and the other dogs won't judge or run them over!
..... I'm going to regret saying this, but I've always related to teacup poodles (named that because they fit in a teacup).... so small, so fragile and cute-but-funny-looking... but mostly because they're so teeny but some can bark like an average-sized dog! They try to think they're tough, but to no avail. And they DO try to blend in, but it's not happening!

Love in Him,
Your Little Sister
