Are the rest of your household Christians? If so, could you have a group discussion about it?
They are, but my other half was raised Churches of Christ. Lent isn't really something he sees as important. And, I mean, he might go out of his way for me, but he already does that so much already, it doesn't feel fair to ask.

The reason I clicked on "Winner" is because you officially count now as another person with a complicated Lent situation. For being married to someone who doesn't do Lent but does eat meals and watch tv with you, you qualify.

I'm in a similar situation. When I was single, I was vegetarian during Lent. Once I was married, though, being vegetarian would mean either subjecting my household to a vegetarian diet against their will, or cooking two entrees every night, meat for them and beans and rice for me.

Since I'm the only one in my household who observes Lent, I try to pick out a fast or spiritual discipline that affects only me, and that doesn't inconvenience other people. @Paidiske 's suggestion to find something that brings one closer to God is good advice. I try to think about a) are there things I do that draw me away from the love of God, or b) are there spiritual practices that would draw me closer to God if I did them, but I never quite get around to them. And then I take one of them for my focus.

Wait a minute, you have never seen the sea? Put it on a To Do list, it is urgent!
Maybe when I was in Ireland? Or from Ireland going to England?

Otherwise, no. I live in a landlocked state

I think perhaps my Lenten discipline shall take the form of ceasing to procrastinate on home repairs. There's a light fixture in the hallway that needs rehung. I need to put out a new mailbox. And there's some framing around the gallery windows that is rotten and needs replaced and then painted. I also have a towel peg that I bought for the bathroom and haven't put up yet because I need to sand down where I repaired the wall first.

Are your children baptized Anglican and does your husband go to service with you? Just curious.

If you managed to go from Ireland to England without seeing the sea, I have questions...

Kiddo was baptised with an Anglican rite, yes, but we waited until she was five because my other half couldn't countenance it earlier. And even then he wasn't really all that comfortable with it.

He comes with me now, because my most recent parish meant an interstate move, and that forced him to leave the church he'd been attending since before we met. Up until then, he'd been mostly worshipping in that church.

Then yes, I went through the sea.

Ah, that's interesting. I'm happy everything worked out ok for you.

Well at least you have seen our sea. But ours is tiny....get yourself to an ocean.

You may have seen the Atlantic from Ireland, but not if all you did was get on a boat to here. If you flew, get to an ocean, don't just fly over it.

There is a Roman Catholic lady who comes to our church for coffee after Mass...she runs round the corner to us after Mass in her own church. It is because her husband is in our choir.

Oh phew you have seen the sea. My British heart is now officially beating again. I see the Channel almost every time I step out the door. Hence my reaction.

Y'all forget how big the US is. It takes me 9-10 hours to drive to the Atlantic Coast. RileyG pretty much lives in the center of the country. It's probably a 3 day road trip in any direction.

And we have notoriously crappy train service in most of the country which is usually slower than just getting in a car and driving.
