  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Some do, it is not as wide spread a practice as it is with Catholics, but I would say it is very common. I always do, but I also come by way of the Catholic Church. Most churches do some sort of Lenten services weekly, but not all do this any longer. There are rare Lutheran churches that do Stations of the Cross and fish fry like the RCC.

Can Lutherans eat meat on Fridays?
If it has as special significance and is spiritually beneficial for you to fast then - yes it is recommended. But there are not any church mandated restrictions that I am aware of.

My church has a dinner, then worship on Wednesday evenings on Ash Wednesdays and during Lent. I’m looking forward to it.

We can eat meat on Fridays.

I usually try to give something up, I am this year. It's always nice when you remember during this season that when you crave something, instead of giving into the craving (flesh), we fix our eyes on Christ and ask Him to fill that for us.

This year instead of giving something up I am going to wake up 10 minutes earlier and study scripture.
Good idea. I think I’ll read Scripture and my devotional daily.
