I know this isn't the Catholic forum, yet the title contains the names of two Catholic liturgical seasons, which those of the Catholic faith (and probably some others) observe with special practices. Lent, traditionally a time of fasting (often with little conviction), is coming up - it begins this coming Wednesday, to be exact. Advent takes place through the month before Christmas.
I recently stepped out of the Catholic church for reasons I believe to be significant. I had followed those traditions for most of my life, though, or was at least aware of the seasons without observing them. So, my question is, is their observance Catholic only, or do other denominations observe them? Would their observation, in any interpretation, be a mistake?
