1. I have never seen the wind or my brain or the ark. But God tell me they exist so they do. Same with witchcraft.
You just compared something you can feel and see the results of (wind), with something you can definitely see and feel (brain) and a historical artifact (ark).......and all those you compared to witchcraft. Fact = witchcraft is 100% bunk.

Nobody can say that as 100% proof.

Sounds kind of offesive to me. Gabriel killing people? Etc. Etc. Etc. Infinity.

Fiction or not people are highly influenced by what they see in entertainment.

Hollywood is getting to a point where they are trying to blur angels & demonic/evil behavior.

I think I'll pass.

BTW- angels do possess people. The fallen ones. And there is the Scripture about entertaining angels unaware which leads one to believe they can take on different forms.

I'd still like to see a USCCB review but nothing yet.

Thanks for the info. I'm still interested in seeing what Mark thinks.

Just got back... others here have done a great job reviewing the movie.

I must agree that the whole premise of the film contradicts the Gospel on so many levels.

There is no Satan. The only concept of evil is mankind's defiance of God. Other than the odd image of a cross or crucifix here and there and a couple of mentions of Christmas, there is no reference to the salvaic works of Christ either. It would seem that our Lord's nativity, His passion, His resurrection and His ascendancy to His Heavenly throne as King of Heaven and Earth never occurred. Also the covenant forth told to Noah by the rainbow was broken by God in this film. God does not break His promises.

It did convey the idea that there is some hope for mankind, but what of eternal salvation? There was no mention of it at all (if there was I missed it).

It is my sincere hope and prayer that this movie was not intended to "teach". If it was, then it is indeed blasphemy and apostasy.

Now it's confession time...

In the context of it being a work of fiction; both Eileen and I found it very entertaining. Would I recommend it based on it's theological merits? No way. If I had friends who were searching and wanted to go see it, they would get quite a sermon from me. For those of steadfast faith who may be inclined to go; by all means go. As both a friend and in my capacity as our head Elder (lay Deacon), I will recommend to my Pastor that he go see it.

Tomorrow, when we all celebrate the Mass, let us rejoice in the Holy Gospel; for those of us who have seen this movie where that Gospel was so conspicuously absent, it is even more right and salutary that we offer our thanks and praise for our Lord Jesus Christ; and the redemption that he has earned for us!:preach:

On that note; I feel compelled to pray the Te Deum Laudimus! Join me if you like (beautiful setting BTW).

:Spoilers:

I just saw the movie tonight with my mom. I wasn't at all offended by it and it's interesting to me to see some people reacting the way they are. First, I thought it was a really entertaining movie. I also did not interpret it as God being bad....AT ALL. I'm not sure how you could. I thought the whole point was clear when Michael said "That's why you failed Him" to Gabriel. I saw it as God testing the angels. The end was near and God was testing the angels and they failed. Remember how God wanted Abraham to sacrifice his son and ordered him to do so to test Abraham? Well, God ordered the angels to kill this child...and Michael loved God and loved mankind because God told him to love mankind. He said he was the first of the angels to bow before man and he loved them. So He chose to not go against what God has always ordered him to do and what God put in his heart...."love". And he battles the fallen angels and in the end is victorious and given new life because he gave God what He truly wanted. It's not exactly biblically accurate but I don't think it was meant to be a bible story but I certainly didn't see it as offensive.

Good review Mark. It's unfortunate that some are so influenced/fascinated by hollywood spin but it seems to be the case too often.

As far as entertainment, glad you enjoyed it & was informed enough to know better of the errors!

All i know is that God says that witchcraft is true. Thats more than enough proof for me, and i would hope it would be for you. More-so than something i can feel, or see. And there is no way to prove the historic truth of the ark other than the Bible (God's word. Where it also says witchcraft is real) because the actual physical artifact has never and will never be found.

My main issue with people, and this film was going to be that they were going to see it as another anti-God film. When unless you actually see it, and for 2 hrs can shut off your narrow dogmatic view of how things are intended you'd be suprised by this flim. Nothing in this movie is one bit anti christian, sure it's not biblically accurate, but that is not it's intent. God is testing both man and angels in the flim he tests Michael to see if

1) He still loves humans as much as he said he once did So God tests him by Commanding him to kill a baby who is not the second coming but merely a normal child who will grow up to be a man that will lead other humans on a path back to God.

2) That Michael will do what God has always asked of him that he will be a guide this he does by telling Jeep that because people like him even tho they live in hard times they press on and have faith that is why michael came to show that God truly does have mercy and he does love us.

Michael passes these tests Gabriel in his attempts to please God fails them Michael is given opportunity to slay his brother but again in an act of selfless redemption Michael shows mercy.

Yes there's wall to wall cussing and blood and gore but if someone ever did do an accurate movie based on the bible it would be rated NC17 and it be the most offensive movie ever made and yes some denominations would scream blasphemy because it wasn't accurate to their view of the bible.

Funny how certain people are just coming on this thread to coax us into seeing Legion. "Oh, it's not so bad!" "If you just stop believing what the Church teaches, you'll love it!" Saint Augustine warned against such people who try to deceive others, saying they lead others into sin. Keep to what the Catholic Church teaches, my brothers in Christ, for the Holy Church is infallible and Heaven is far better than anything in this world!

I think St. Augustine would give it a scathing review.

The review on Book of Eli sounds somewhat intriguing...

To the person commenting about people saying the movie isn't that bad....I'm new here, yeah but it doesn't have anything to do with getting people to see Legion, lol. I just had a different interpretation of the film. And I didn't ignore the Bible's teachings in order to enjoy it.

The Book of Eli was really good, btw, in case anyone was wondering. I liked it better than Legion although it did have moments that freaked me out. But Denzel's character, Eli, was a great one.

And I've got a question: does make a bad Christian because a watched something like that. That goes against what I believe because my couriosity (sorry for my bad spelling) caused me to watch it?

Hello dude:

It seems so strange to me that you would ask that question since lately the Lord has been convicting me about things I say and do. The Lord wants us to lead a blameless life.

Everyone has to judge himself or herself against what the Word of the Lord says.

Recently I read Psalm 101. In that book and chapter, I read,

"2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life—
when will you come to me?
I will conduct the affairs of my house
with a blameless heart.
3 I will not look with approval
on anything that is vile
.

So I would ask you to judge yourself. Is "Legion" vile? I would say it was since it doesn't portray the Lord in a positive light (or did it?)

Now of course, we can all say, "But I didn't "look with approval" on it. My response to that would be that you paid money for it, and you watched it, and you filled your eyes with it, and your mind was filled with it. To me, that would mean that you did look with approval. If not, would you have walked out and maybe even asked for your money back?

The Lord doesn't allow us to be curious and sin. I was curious once about a wrong thing, tried it, and paid a dear price for my sin that I am suffering from to this day.

However, you may believe that you are blameless, and if so, then you are the one who has to stand before the Lord for He is the ultimate judge.

But if you do think it was wrong, then God has a simple remedy:

I John 1:
8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

The Lord's ways are very simple because we are powerless without Him. If you sin, confess it (whatever you did wrong, simply tell Him you did it and that you now believe it was wrong), and He will purify you from all unrighteousness.

Now don't get me wrong. I do not believe that you can sin and sin and sin. I believe that we are all cut off when we produce no fruit or go bad for too long. That means the Lord takes us home.

John 15:
1 “I [Jesus] am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes[a] so that it will be even more fruitful.

We, as Christians, are supposed to be "fruitful." If we are not producing into the kingdom, why would He want us here? He prunes us off the true vine, and He takes us home because we are not being productive--bearing no fruit.

God bless you in your decision where you should stand on this question you have. You will do what is right.

I didn't go and see it because I believed it was likely to be blasphemous to my Lord because of the commercials I saw. I wouldn't pay to see something that portrayed my Lord badly.

God be with you.

The Devil and his Angels have their own propaganda which is always trying to portray God as the bad guy and them as man's saviors.

I agree, God did say that devil has his own army and they are trained to mislead us. The devil wants us to fall into his personal hell. With that he'll use anything to use as bait.
