Lol, I thought your header was talking about Dead Sea Scrolls.

I have only read a tiny bit of the kids' series, but was suprised how much I enjoyed a prequel-- I think it was The Rising.

The movie... erm... it was a good idea to try to make one, but confirming WarEagle's review, Cameron is self-conscious and over-eager to influence.

They're in the Amazon hall of fame, so someone is reading them. Kids seem to get a rush out of reading them. I don't think anyone could get the theology absolutely correct, but at least it gets kids thinking about possibilities.

I sort of like how it made kids aware of survival issues too... a sense that things can happen in their stable world. At the same time, it could confuse people into thinking what the writers presented will happen. They tread a fine line between theology and fiction.

Personally? They brought me to Christ in the first place. So, I think they're freaking awesome as far as literature goes. They're only good for about 2-3 read throughs though...

As far as theology goes, I do hold the opinion that most of Revelation is literal; however, with the knowledge that that may or may not be true. Do I think there's a point? Of course. Is all of it symbollic? Uh, no. Ah, what's it matter? Y'all are just going to figure I'm full of it anyway, and I don't have the time or the patience to write down all my reasoning...

Their theology is that of chiliasm, which was condemned by the 2nd and 3rd Ecumenical Councils waaaaaaaay back in the days of the Early Church.

As such, I personally find the books to teach erronous theology and do not suggest anyone reading them until they are well grounded in orthodox eschatology.

Good question! The problem is that you will get a variety of answers. Some like the series (I did, and do). Other will classify it as bad theology because they disagree with some of the basic premises. Pre-trib rapture, for example.

I grant that the story line is fiction. There is no Rayford Steele, et al anywhere in the bible. However, I find that the "theology" (if you separate it from the story plot) to be accurate. But then I believe in the pre-trib rapture among other things that others in this forum do not.

In short, the books serve a fantastic purpose, that being the huge number of people who have found Christ due to those books.
