The Media is fooling people as usual.

Low income people like me see high levels of immigration pushing up rents and competing for low paid employment. Wealthy people see high levels of immigration as a source of cheap labor and more renters.

In the 2016 election both Bernie and Donald said a lot about bringing back jobs and when Bernie was knocked out by what was claimed to be his own party, that left Donald as the remaining candidate.

Hillary was promising the banks everything and had for a long time proclaimed unrestricted trade with Eastern Asia, a good thing, which was going to take even more jobs. She was the far right.

But the media has mislabeled pretty much everything and managed to produce a lot of confusion.

It’s not entirely a media thing. Twenty years ago, protesting the WTO in Seattle was almost a mainstream position for Democrat activists. But these days, they’d never do that.

The fact is that the Democrat and Republican Parties are both experiencing a pretty significant realignment right now. It’s happened before and it’ll happen again.

I don't think that's it. But there is another realignment.

Twenty years ago, the labor unions still called the shots in the Democratic Party.

Today, their influence is greatly diminished and Socialists (who prefer the term "Progressives") lead the way instead.

Not only that, but it seems to me that the national language of "English" is slowly changing to Spanish.

I've been highly qualified for plenty of jobs I should have got, yet because I didnt speak Spanish, I did not get them.

Also, due to the companies hiring cheaper labor, the quality of work has become shoddy. I can only speak from the construction field standpoint in my area though. Horrible skill levels. I am actually quite frustrated with that as I can do circles around these people. Spanish speaking/cheaper labor took priority over highly skilled/educated/experience.

Sorry. I ranted

English is not the national language. The US has no official national language.

So, learn some Spanish. It's an easy language to pick up sufficiently for workplace use. Es facil.

Yes, I noticed the parties changed places.

In 1982 or so Ronald Reagan made a huge shift to the right called 'neoliberalism' meaning importing the cheapest manufactured items from any where in the World to displace American manual workers. It doesn't harm the middle class so it pretty much fits Karl Marx's category of 'class warfare'.

Then in 1994 Neoliberalism was extended by Bill Clinton signing NAFTA into effect, and now it is Donald Trump trying to undo the work of Ronald Reagan, which is a very difficult task.

Now although both Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders are on the side of helping the working class (blue collar), the Democratic Party is against it and backed the far right Hillary Clinton with her TPP and allegiance to the banks over Bernie.

I think it's fair to say the parties have almost switched, but I think D.T. is where I am which is a position of demanding fairness and the end to the class war, frankly I saw enough of the class war in England to see that it does nobody any good.

Damaging half the country actually harms all of it.

You can switch the labels all you want...at the end of the day, the United States needs to find a way for all her citizens to be competitive in the global labor workforce. Both parties have failed to address this --going back 3 decades.

Mork, the Democrats in the House of Representatives just voted to invite Venezuela to move to the USA and take those jobs. Read about it in today's news.

Many thanks for that, I haven't read a newspaper since 1988, so much of it is lies it just isn't worth it, but I rely on people with good brains like yourself to tell me the bits that really matter.

I'm quite certain that he did not mean it literally. That's clear from the context and "official" was never used.
I know, but on the other hand it should not be considered an intolerable burden or somehow "un-American" to learn to communicate in Spanish at a basic level.

I rant too. I'm a white male non veteran in New Mexico. 48% of the population identifies as Hispanic, 28% as white, so the racial minority that gets employment preference covers everyone except the 28% of whites, and females are also a minority so we're down to 14%, and then this area has an abundance of veterans, so the only people without hiring preference is the small category I'm in of white male non veterans.

I came over from England where I had similar problems so I was amazed with 4 years experience as an industrial electrician to walk into a technical recruitment agency and be told not to leave my resume or any details because they had nothing for me.

I call myself 'the seven percent'.

and then I get middle class people telling me I'm privileged and should vote Hillary and support unlimited immigration.

sorry to share my rant.

Yes, that's totally true.
In past when people argued politics I usually said 'do what the Germans do', and here you can see why:

It sounds to me like your own stubbornness is keeping you from getting work, then. Most people in the world speak at least two languages because it’s necessary. Spanish is probably the easiest to learn, why not just do it?

I just checked and the unemployment rate for whites in New Mexico is lower than for Hispanics. 3.9% for whites and 4.7% for Hispanics.

Now that I think about it, most daily newspapers have gone out of business by now and those which remain don't offer very current news anyway. Online and TV news sources have basically supplanted them.

Unfortunately, what gets lost in the shuffle is town and small city news. What happened at the city council meeting, where were all those fire engines going last night, stuff like that.

Are they going to bring it in on a giant barge or just let UPS and FedEx bid for the job?

The media has been promoting unrestricted immigration as 'progressive', good for the country, we are all immigrants, moderate left and such.

I am moderate left and it certainly isn't moderate left, but the media will say anything to support their master's agenda.

It certainly isn't left because it harms those of us with lower incomes by increasing competition for low skilled jobs and for lower priced rental housing.
