I've titled the thread as appropriately as I could, but it still may miss the mark.

Anyway, I've watched this lecture countless times and had it on in the background and it's really made me think about my position on Origins.

For the longest time I've held to Theistic Evolution, but the lecture shook me up a bit and I'm still trying to work out what it all means ^_^

The 3 verses covered in the lecture are as follows(ESV);

Genesis 1:31;
And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
Emphasis in lecture placed on bold part as not a moralistic verse, but an everything verse.

1 Thessalonians 5:21;
but test everything; hold fast what is good.

Numbers 13:23;
And they came to the Valley of Eshcol and cut down from there a branch with a single cluster of grapes, and they carried it on a pole between two of them; they also brought some pomegranates and figs.
Emphasis on the size of the grapes. Either they were big grapes or a big bunch of little grapes.

Anyway, those few points tie in with the overall theme and cases he brings forward and I think it's well worth a watch.

Let me know what you guys think :)

Oh, goodness! It's an hour and a half long!

Can you summarize a particular point you found surprising?

Honestly, it's a disservice to shorten it :) Even if you don't have the time now, whenever you do, the whole lecture is worth it.

Okay, I'll add it to my list. But I still say it's still an unmanageable thing for a single thread. If there's a specific point to be discussed, on the other hand...

Well that's just it, there's a lot of talking surrounding each point.

Either way, definitely worth it, time permitting.

The speaker is John MacKay and he's a great speaker.

Does this John Mackay have credentials in biology, geology, or what he is talking about?

Is this the same John Mackay who was involved with the whole fight with other creationists that included excommunication of John Mackay and allegations of sex with dead bodies?

Regarding John Mackay - creation.com

I'm not sure there is anything here worth spending time on.

If one JT Kirk wants to see how well a theistic evolution view fits with Christianity, there is always the biologos.org site. No necrophilia there.

Interesting read, wasn't aware of that.

He has studied geology and I know he has a degree in it, but beyond that I was basically just opening up the floor to the assertions he made and regardless of his credentials or lack thereof why I intended on taking each thing apart myself to look at it in detail to draw my own conclusions.

I didn't mean this to be a 'teaching' or anything, more so to see others' opinions on his assertions from their own experience and perspective.

Well, which one would you like to start with discussing?

Geologists have already said that the fossil records supports evolution, so that could be a starting point if you like.

Yeah, if MacKay disputes that, that's basically where you have to stop watching. Every related field bolsters evolution. There's no way around that.
