  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Lectio Divina

I recently encountered the form of prayer called Lectio Divina. There are strong feelings and arguments for and against it. Some claim it circumvents the fact that the Bible is sufficient for all purposes and adds some of the qualities of Transendental Meditation to the Christian faith. Others claim it opens the heart of the pray-er to God's voice. It sounds like a deviation from scriptural prayer. Anyone have any experience either way?

I haven't heard the word before and just read the wikipedia article on the subject. I find nothing wrong with it. After all, prayer is to bring God's own words to the presence of God. If it is a promise, I ask God to fulfil it within me. If it is a command, I commit myself to obeying it. All happen while I am in prayer.

People may add mechanics (man made rules) to it, but the essence of Lectio Divina seems to be right at the core of truthful prayer.
