TAKE FIVE DEVOTIONALS
by David McQueen
So he got up and went to his father.
"But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. Luke 15:20
The story of the prodigal son is an amazing one. Someone who had it all and got rid of it. It makes you think of those people who have tasted celebrity for a while and then desperate to grab back at the straws and do anything to be seen on the screen again. Or those who have won millions on the lottery, only to blow it again because they have no sense of management or REALITY!! And you end up back at square one......
However I prefer to call this story the prodigal father. I prefer to shift the emphasis away from the waywardness of the son that left to the Father that always kept a look out for him. The Father who would always be looking out his window in anticpiation of the son/daughter to come home, so much so that when you do come home, he starts legging it down the road to meet you, grabs you and hugs you even though you smell and look like you have been doing interior design for the local sewage board!! Tells you to stop talking, cries on your shoulder, and places his ring, his symbol of power on your finger.
For some of you reading this devo, like me, sometimes you may be wondering whether or not God has given up on you, because you have taken berties and wondered so far away from him that there is no chance. The thing about God is though he still is looking out for us. This kind of love that we can never imagine is possible, but God still looks out for you, protecting you. If you haven't left already, time to leave the pigsty!!!
Father God, we give you thanks for alll your blessings. We thank you that you come running to us to hug us and welcome us home. I pray all who read will never forget that you are still there. In Jesus name. Amen
