  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've been reading in the news that a some people refuse to leave the hurican area becuse they can't take there pets with them. Some of these people are on gound zerro of where the storm is going to hit, and They have the oppoturinty to leave IF they leave there pets behind.

My question is would you leave your pets behind ?
or would you "ride it out" hoping you and your pets would survive ?

I would never leave without my pets. Just wouldn't happen for me. Luckily, I live in Dallas, so I don't have to worry about hurricanes, but even if we have tornado warnings, I move my pets into a closet to make sure that they're safe in case one does come through.

Pets are comin with me. We may not be comfortable, but my loves would be safe and alive. The thought of them suffering kills me. That would live on my heart forever and forever. Wow, I couldn't imagine having horses, and not knowing what to do. How horrible!

i think that i would rather suffer a direct hit from a severe storm and suffer along with my pets than get myself to safety and leave them behind, assuming that those are my only two options. i wouldn't leave my daughter, and i wouldn't leave my dogs. period.

No worries for me. The only pets I have are a pair of rats. They have a small travel cage that would fit nicely in my backpack. Also, they eat whatever I'm eating and then some, so I have very little food concerns. Heck, anything that I thought was too unsanitary, because of bacterial reasons, not chemical reasons, I can feed them as well.

If I had pets, and could evacuate them myself (car, van, etc) they would come with me. If for any reason I needed to evacuate to a shelter, or on public busses, well, I don't think they would. The reason for this is simple...Shelter facilities are often strained to the maximum of their resources, as far as food, water, and sanitation are concerned. There are people in them of all ages and medical conditions, and I could not countenance being the cause of someone who has already gone through the trauma of being evacuated becoming ill through allergic reactions to pets, especially in an emergency like Hurricane Katrina, where medical help was thin. Also, for those who have large breed dogs, the idea of risking human lives by filling rescue bus space with animals is just wrong, no matter how much you love them.

People must come first.

That said...If I were evacuating under my own steam, and to a friend or family member's home, or a hotel where animals were allowed, of course, they would come with me.

Again, let me say that if it were possible, the animals would come with me, to a place they would be welcome. I don't see how I can allow the illness or exclusion from immediate evacuation to safety of a human being for the sake of an animal, no matter how much I loved that animal.
