  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

If you were near me I'd teach you  You might chek out your local library. . .I borrowed a video from my library and learned some new things from it. It started at the beginning of first learning.

I learned years ago in my 'Brownie' group...with a bunch of other 7-8 year olds. We weren't always selling cookies :)

Much later.. I decided to try knitting again and the result was that everyone.. I mean EVERYONE in the family eventually got a scarf from me. I even made little ones for my cats and our dog.

I still don't know how to make anything else..in fact I'm now makng a 3 strand scarf now. It's very thick and it'll need to be quite long otherwise it sticks out like neck wings.

I say..Make scarves !! They're easy and don't take forever to finish...and you can give them away as gifts.

BUT if someone offers to help you learn to make something other then a scarf..take the offer!

You can only give just 'so many' scarves to a person you know.
You eventually start to wonder what 'they' did with all of them after a while... That's about that time to put those ol' needles away.

LOOK OUT EVERYONE.... I'm knitting again !!
GUESS WHAT's COMING FOR CHRISTMAS ??

I remember My pastor's wife teaching me how to knit a scarf back when I was about 12 ( yes they had knitting needled then! :) _) but it was very unique, somehow it made a double thickness at the same time, but I can't remember how to do it, nor find anybody that knows how.

I did get from someone once a booklet on something called "Camel knitting" that was similar, but not the same.

I had a neighbor lady teach me when I was a little girl. From there I bought patterns and learned how to read the patterns. I also bought a knitting book that had all sorts of different kinds of stictches. . .like how to do cables, pop-corn stitches, lace type work, etc. I would make squares for the point of just learning how to do these things.

My most popular gift that everybody wants is Christmas stockings, or I also call them Birthday stockings. When I worked with the children's church at my church, on each kid's birthday, I would knit them a stocking in their favorite colors and knit their name into it as well as have some sort of picture in it that would tell something about them. They always loved it. I would tell them that the Birthday stocking was to be hung on their Birthday so that gifts and goodies could be put into it just like at Christmas.

I've also made baby blankets (if you can make a scarf, you can make a blanket),booties, purses and sweaters for people and dogs :).

It's something I enjoy doing as I watch TV, or listen to tapes and I can pretty much take it anywhere. . .such as the doctors office, etc.

I taught myself with a book... go to any local yarn store or walmart or whatever... you can often get books that teach you how... i got one very basic book titled "learn to knit" for under ten bucks! Just make sure it has lots of pictures so you can see what you are supposed to do!

Once you get the hang of it, you'll be able to make anything!

Hi! I'm a knitting freak and I just learned this year. I found some great sites just by doing a web search on Knitting. There are a ton of new books out and web resources on knitting right now because it's coming back in a big way! I hope you find some great projects to work on!
Blessings,
Carolynn

I taught myself how to knit, and am still learning and let me tell you, it is one of the most difficult things I have ever done. But once I got the hang of it, it was fairly easy. My only problem is when I am going to knit something, how many stiches to make for how wide my project will be. I'll just say, that I have attempted 4 times now to knit a scarf and each time they end up puckering and I have to take the thing apart. Just stick to it though. Read the directions over and over and over again until you know them off by heart. Also, look at the pictures...but read the directions.

If anyone is interested in knitting baby hats or booties, I can get you some good easy patterns. We use these patterns for the baby hats and booties for the newborns at our local hospital.

Just email me if you want me to get them to you.
